Removal [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [08/2015 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [08/2020 - ]

  2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 08/2022] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2022 - ] ).

  4. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the washer nozzle hose.
    2. Remove the 8 bolts and hood sub-assembly.

      NOTE:

      If the hood support is detached from the ball joint, it becomes non-reusable. Therefore, do not detach the hood support from the ball joint unless replacing it.

  5. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  6. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT (for 4WD with Intuitive Parking Assist System) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2019 - 08/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2021 - ]

  7. REMOVE FRONT LOWER BUMPER COVER (w/o Intuitive Parking Assist System) 
    1. Remove the clip, 5 bolts and front lower bumper cover.
  8. REMOVE FRONT LOWER BUMPER COVER (w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System) 
    1. Remove the clip, 4 bolts and front lower bumper cover.
  9. REMOVE AIR INTAKE DUCT LH (w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System) 
    1. Remove the clip and bolt.

    2. Remove the 2 screws and air intake duct LH.
  10. REMOVE AIR INTAKE DUCT RH (w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System) 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  11. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts.
    2. Unhook the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

  12. REMOVE TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission under cover.
  13. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine under cover assembly.
  14. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH 
    1. w/o KDSS:
      1. Remove the 5 clips and front fender apron seal LH.
    2. w/ KDSS:
      1. Remove the 7 clips and front fender apron seal LH.
  15. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH 
    1. Remove the 4 clips and front fender apron seal RH.
  16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL LH 
    1. Remove the 5 clips and front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal LH.
  17. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL RH 
    1. Remove the 5 clips and front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal RH.
  18. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL 
    1. Remove the 13 clips and upper radiator support seal.
  19. DRAIN ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  20. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  21. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  22. REMOVE BATTERY HOLD DOWN CLAMP 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  23. REMOVE BATTERY 
  24. REMOVE BATTERY TRAY 
  25. REMOVE V-BANK COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  26. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER 

    w/o Intuitive Parking Assist System: (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2021 - ] )

    w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System: (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - 08/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2021 - ] )

  27. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP AND HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  28. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly.
    2. Detach the wire harness clamp.

    3. Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case sub-assembly.
  29. REMOVE UPPER FRONT BUMPER RETAINER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  30. REMOVE RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  31. REMOVE RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  32. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  33. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  34. REMOVE RADIATOR RESERVOIR TANK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16

  35. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17

  36. REMOVE FAN SHROUD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  37. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 19

  38. DISCONNECT NO. 1 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  39. REMOVE AIR TUBE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  40. DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  41. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  42. DISCONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  43. DISCONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3 [08/2015 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3 [08/2020 - ]

  44. DISCONNECT SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2015 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2020 - ]

  45. REMOVE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 [08/2015 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 [08/2020 - ]

  46. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  47. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  48. REMOVE AIR TUBE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  49. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  50. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  51. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  52. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR TUBE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  53. REMOVE NO. 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17

  54. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  55. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  56. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  57. REMOVE STARTER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  58. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

  59. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER

  60. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - 08/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2022 - ] )

  61. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the connector.

      1. Disconnect the connector and detach the clamp.
    3. Disconnect the ECM connector.
      1. Detach the clamp and disconnect the 6 connectors.

      2. Detach the grommet from the wire harness support.

      3. Detach the 4 claws to remove the wire harness support from the vehicle, and then pull out the ECM connector to remove it from the vehicle.

  62. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 hoses and heater water hose assembly.

  63. DISCONNECT NO. 1 AND NO. 2 FUEL PIPES 
    1. Remove the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp from the fuel tube connector.

    2. Disconnect the No. 1 and No. 2 fuel pipes (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).
  64. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

  65. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  66. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

  67. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 

    for 2WD: (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

    for 4WD: (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] )

  68. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

      • SST: 09330-00021 
    2. Remove the 8 bolts, rear spacer, drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and front spacer.

  69. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install 2 engine hangers with 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 33 N.m (337 kgf/cm, 24 ft.lbf)

      *1 No. 1 Engine Hanger
      *2 No. 2 Engine Hanger

      HINT: 

      No. 1 Engine Hanger 12281-31110
      No. 2 Engine Hanger 12282-31140
      Bolt 91671-C0830
    2. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
    3. Remove the 6 nuts and 4 bolts from the front engine mounting insulator LH and front engine mounting insulator RH.

    4. Lift the engine out of the vehicle carefully.
      NOTE:

      Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.

    5. Remove the front engine mounting insulator LH and front engine mounting insulator RH.
    6. Place the engine onto a work bench.
  70. INSTALL ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the engine onto an engine stand with bolts.
