Remove/Install Dual-Clutch Transmission - AR27.10-P-0009MNB

    Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove ground line from battery.   AR54.10-P-0003RG
2 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-0100RG
3 Remove rear wheel and tire assemblies.   AR40.10-P-1100RQ
4 Remove exhaust system.   AR49.10-P-7142MNC
    Transmission 700.40 in model 190.379/380/477/478/479/480  
    Transmission 700.40 in model 190.377/378/381 AR49.10-P-7142MNB
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install rear lower engine compartment paneling after leak test.  
5 Remove reinforcement behind transmission (27). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear reinforcement to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1002-01I 
6 Disconnect oil lines (22R) from connecting point and seal with suitable stop plugs.   AR27.55-P-0613MNB 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace the sealing rings of the oil lines (22R).

7 Remove both rear axle shafts (2) from transmission (27).   AR35.30-P-0620RQ
    IMPORTANT Remove rear axle shafts (2) from transmission (27) only and place to one side. The rear axle shafts (2) remain in the vehicle. No wheel alignment measurement necessary.  
8 Remove oil lines (27H) from transmission (27), seal with suitable stop plugs, and secure at side.   AR27.55-P-0612MNB 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace the sealing rings of the oil lines (27H).

9 Remove plug (19) from drive shaft with housing (41).    
10 Remove rear heat shield from drive shaft with housing (41). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to drive shaft housing *BA41.50-P-1006-01B 
11 Support and strap down transmission (27) with major assembly support and mounting plate.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
    IMPORTANT Ensure even alignment of support plates.  
12 Secure drive shaft with housing (41) against falling down. IMPORTANT By tightening a tensioning strap between the right and left cross-strut on the underfloor.  
13 Remove transmission mounts (9) with transmission mount consoles (10).   AR27.10-P-1000MNB 
14 Lower transmission (27) until all screws of drive shaft with housing (41) are accessible.    
15 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (5, 6, 7) from transmission (27).    
16 Remove wiring harness of electrical connectors (5, 6, 7) from transmission (27) and put down outside of working area. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that wiring harness is routed properly.  
17 Remove ground line (4) from transmission (27).    
18 Release and disconnect electrical connector from oil temperature switch (3).    
19 Unscrew screws of drive shaft with housing (41) and remove drive shaft with housing (41) from transmission (27). NOTES
The bolts (61) and clamp screw (62) on the compensation ring (41S) may not be released. Otherwise, the compensation ring (41S) will be damaged.
 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Grease teeth of compensation ring (41S).  
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace bolts of drive shaft with housing (41).  
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Swivel transmission (27) to and fro slightly when mounting until it moves correctly into teething of compensation ring (41S) and rear transmission bushing (41H).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, drive shaft housing to transmission *BA41.50-P-1003-01B 
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1001-06A 
    If clamp screw (62) at compensation ring (41S) is released anyway,

tension compensating ring (41S) again.

    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, compensating ring to drive shaft at rear *BA41.50-P-1005-01B

    If screw (61) at compensation ring (41S) is released anyway,

replace compensating ring (41S).

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, compensating ring to drive shaft at rear *BA41.50-P-1005-01B

20 Take transmission (27) out downward.    
INSPECT Check     
21 Check radial shaft sealing ring (11) of transmission input shaft (12) for damage and replace, if necessary. NOTES
Remove radial shaft sealing ring (11) of transmission input shaft (12) using a suitable tool. Otherwise, the sealing surfaces of the transmission input shaft (12) will be damaged during removal.
 
    INSTALLATION NOTES
Mount radial shaft sealing ring (11) SPECIAL TOOL using drift and check for correct seating.
Otherwise there will be leaks which can cause transmission and environmental damage.
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 2
22 Check transmission housing at front for damage. If damage is identifiable,

replace transmission housing.
 
      AR27.40-P-0510RQ 
    If damage is identifiable,

check compensation ring (41S) for firm seating.
 
23 Check radial shaft sealing ring (13) on rear axle shaft flange (14) for damage. If damage is identifiable,

replace radial shaft sealing ring (13) on rear axle shaft flange (14).
 
      AR27.40-P-0210RQ 
24 Check transmission mounts (9) for damage and replace if necessary.   AR27.10-P-1000MNB 
25 If necessary, remove transmission (27) from major assembly support using lifting device (16) and boom crane. SPECIAL TOOL Lifting device Fig 4
26 Remove transmission carrier (8) from transmission (27). When replacing the transmission (27).  
      AR27.10-P-1000MNB 
27 Install in the reverse order    
28 Check oil level in transmission (27) and correct if necessary.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP27.00-P-2706RQ 
29 Commission following repair of transmission (27). After repairing the transmission (27) or the hydraulic unit shift mechanism or the hydraulic unit coupling.  
      AR27.10-P-0008RQ 
30 Perform transmission adaptation with vehicle diagnosis system. Only after replacing the transmission (27) or the hydraulic unit shift mechanism or the hydraulic unit coupling.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
31 Perform engine test run and check transmission (27) for proper operation and leak tightness.    
32 Install rear lower engine compartment paneling.   AR61.30-P-1001RG
