HVAC Assembly Removal And Installation/Replacement
Mobile Repair Possible: No
Overview:
WARNING:
Electricity hazard
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in death or serious injury from electric shock when working on or near high-voltage components.
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in death or serious injury from electric shock when working on or near high-voltage components.
- Only authorised and appropriately trained persons may carry out work on high-voltage vehicles and components.
- Perform High Voltage isolation procedure prior to commencing work
- Ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is worn until the system is verified safe
WARNING:
Refrigerant System hazard
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in serious injury due to freezing temperatures associated with leaking refrigerant
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in serious injury due to freezing temperatures associated with leaking refrigerant
- Only properly trained and authorized persons may carry out work on air conditioning systems.
- Always use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Removal Procedure:
- Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
- Disable HV-System. Refer to HV-SYSTEM DISABLING/ENABLING
- Depending on the region, the correct refrigerant must be recovered and recharged. Vietnam market uses R-134a. US/Europe market uses R-1234yf.
Recover refrigerant (US/Europe - R-1234YF). Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND RECHARGING (R-1234YF)
- Drain cooling system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND FILLING (HV BATTERY AND EMOTOR)
- Remove windshield wiper arm. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Remove instrument panel tie bar. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL TIE BAR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Release the high and low pressure pipes (1).
Torque: 8 Nm
Removal note: Close the opening of the high and low pressure pipe with a plug to prevent dust and moisture from entering.
Installation note: Not for replacement: replace O-rings. Wet O-rings with refrigerant oil. Refer to AIR CONDITIONING O-RING SEAL REPLACEMENT
- Release heater outlet hose and heater inlet hose (2).
- Remove air conditioning battery chiller. Refer to AIR CONDITIONING BATTERY CHILLER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Release bolt (1).
Torque: 7 Nm
- Release 4 clips (1) on both sides.
- With the help of a second mechanic, remove the HVAC assembly (1) in the direction of the arrow.NOTE: Damage
Risk of damage to vehicle paint work.- Mask off/protect paint work appropriately to avoid damage.
Replacement Procedure:
- Rebuild air inlet valve actuator. Refer to AIR INLET VALVE ACTUATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild mode valve actuator. Refer to MODE VALVE ACTUATOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT AND CAM ALIGNMENT
- Rebuild temperature valve actuator (Left Side). Refer to TEMPERATURE VALVE ACTUATOR (LEFT SIDE) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild temperature valve. Refer to TEMPERATURE VALVE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild air ionizer. Refer to AIR IONIZER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild HVAC climate control module. Refer to HVAC CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild evaporator air OFF temperature sensor. Refer to EVAPORATOR AIR OFF TEMPERATURE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild air quality sensor. Refer to AIR QUALITY SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild blower motor speed controller. Refer to BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROLLER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild the blower motor. Refer to BLOWER MOTOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild the air conditioning evaporator core. Refer to AIR CONDITIONING EVAPORATOR CORE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Rebuild the heater core. Refer to HEATER CORE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
Installation Procedure:
- Installation is the reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.
All fasteners must be tightened to torque specification!
- Install the instrument panel tie bar. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL TIE BAR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Install the windshield wiper arm. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
- Filling the cooling system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND FILLING (HV BATTERY AND EMOTOR)
- Depending on the region, the correct refrigerant must be recovered and recharged. Vietnam market uses R-134a. US/Europe market uses R-1234yf.
Recharge refrigerant (US/Europe - R-1234YF). Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND RECHARGING (R-1234YF)
- Enable HV-System. Refer to HV-SYSTEM DISABLING/ENABLING
- Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
- Diagnostics, Programming and Setup. Refer to DIAGNOSTICS, PROGRAMMING & SETUP USING SCAN TOOL IN SERVICE
