Remove/install front axle carrier - AR33.10-P-0001EW

DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Deactivate easy entry/exit feature MODEL 212, 218 (except 218.336/936)

2 Move front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel NOTES
When the steering coupling (7) has been disassembled the steering wheel may not be turned.
Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

18 Detach left and right torsion bar linkage (8) from stabilizer bar (9) IMPORTANT If necessary, counterhold ball stud with interior torx.

20 Detach left and right cross strut (11) from front axle carrier (10).   AR33.15-P-0161EW 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten the bolt securing the cross strut (11) to the front axle carrier (10) when the vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.  
21 Remove left and right strut rod (12) from front axle carrier (10) MODEL 212, 218 (except 218.336/936)

Secure axle halves against twisting.

26.2 Detach electrical connections (29) from steering (16) and remove relevant wiring harness from front axle carrier (10) MODEL 212

27 Remove screw/bolt (15) from bracket of hydraulic line to front axle carrier (10) MODEL 212

29 Remove bolt (7b) and hydraulic lines from steering (16) MODEL 212

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new seals.

30 Use suitable stop plugs to seal the previously-detached hydraulic lines and corresponding connection fitting on the steering (16) MODEL 212

37 Prop up front axle carrier (10) using lifting platform and lash down using suitable tensioning straps Major assembly lifting platform/scissors trolley jack

39 Remove screw/bolts (18) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace bolts (18).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, front axle carrier to longitudinal member *BA33.10-P-1001-01M 
40 Lower front axle carrier (10) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check rubber supports (24) for radiator are correctly seated.  
41 Check front axle carrier (10) for damage If damage is present:

Replace front axle carrier (10).
 
42 Remove rubber supports (24) for cooler from front axle carrier (10) When replacing the front axle carrier (10).
If the rubber supports (24) are damaged:

Replace rubber supports (24).
 
43 Remove speed nuts from mounting for engine compartment paneling or bottom sections of soundproofing from front axle carrier (10) When replacing the front axle carrier (10).  
44 Remove vehicle jack lift support point (19) from front axle carrier (10) When replacing the front axle carrier (10).  
45 Remove stabilizer bar (9) MODEL 212, 218 (except 218.336/936)
without CODE M005 (4MATIC)
When replacing the front axle carrier (10).
