Remove/install steering coupling - AR46.10-P-8000EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Deactivate easy entry/exit function Vehicles with code (275) Memory package for electrically adjustable front seats  
2 Turn steering wheel to central position (front wheels in straight ahead position) and secure with the retaining device NOTES On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

3.1 Remove center and rear section of lower engine compartment paneling Vehicles with gasoline engine AR61.20-P-1105EW
3.2 Remove center and rear bottom sections of soundproofing Vehicles with diesel engine AR94.30-P-5300EW
4 Unscrew bolts (1s) and remove heat shield (1) IMPORTANT If necessary.  
5 Detach steering coupling (25) from lower steering shaft (80a); to do so, remove bolt (25a) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-01M 
6 Pull the lower steering shaft (80a) upward to extract it from the steering coupling (25.) NOTES Do not use force (hammer blows, excessive leverage) as the lower steering shaft (80a) is sensitive to lateral forces.  
7 Remove bolt (25b) and pull steering coupling (25) off rack-and-pinion steering INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Turn rack-and-pinion steering to center position and fit steering coupling (25). AR46.20-P-0600-01CW 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1002-01M 
8 Detach locking plate (25f) from steering coupling (25) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Insert a new self-locking nut in the existing locking plate (25f). The locking plate (25f) is not available as a replacement part.  
9 Install in the reverse order
