	Remove/install
1	Detach front wheel and tire assembly

2.2	Remove center and rear bottom part of noise encapsulation	Vehicles with diesel engine

3	Detach bracket (8) of front level sensor's link rod from cross strut (4)	Do not unclip link rod from bracket (8). The link rod will be damaged otherwise. Except CODE 489 (AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping)) Only detach left bracket (8). with CODE 489 (AIRmatic (air suspension with continuous adjustment damping)) Detach left and right bracket (8). Except CODE M005 (4MATIC) Installation: Replace cable tie.
4	Unscrew nut (1)	When loosening the nut (1) the bolt (2) must not be twisted. It is essential to counterhold bolt (2). Otherwise the lock tabs for caster adjustment in the elastomer bearing (4a) will be sheared off when the repair kit is fitted. Screw nut (1) of screw/bolt (2) all the way on until it makes contact, but do not yet tighten in order to allow the elastomer bearing (4a) to turn when the vehicle is rocked to settle suspension. Only tighten nut (1) in the ready-to-drive condition.

5.1	Unscrew nut (5) from cross strut (4) on upper ball joint (7) and detach cross strut (4) with thrust piece (01), puller (02) and press (03) from upper ball joint (7)	Vehicles without code M005 (4MATIC) The grease in the radial groove must not be removed. There must not be any grease on the taper and thread.

6	Pull bolt (2) out of front axle carrier (3) and remove cross strut (4)

7	Check elastomer bearing (4a) in cross strut (4) for signs of damage	Replace cross strut (4) if necessary.
8	Check upper ball joint (7) on steering knuckle (6)	Vehicles without code M005 (4MATIC) If necessary ↓ Replace upper ball joint (7) of steering knuckle bearing.
