Remove/install engine with transmission - AR01.10-P-2401ELS

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Set DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch to position "N" and release parking brake    
2 Deactivate easy entry/exit feature MODEL 212.061/065/165/261/265 with ENGINE 276.8
with CODE 275 (Memory package)

with CODE 275 (Memory package)
IMPORTANT Disabling takes place via the buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu of the multifunction display, see vehicle-operator's manual.
 
3 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel with holding device NOTES
The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling is removed.
The clock spring contact may be destroyed otherwise.

8 Open grommet (29) and drain off coolant in the low-temperature circuit

9 Drain engine oil and catch in a suitable container

10 Remove charge air cooler   AR09.41-P-6819ELS
11 Remove poly-V belt (19)   AR13.20-P-0001ELS
12 Remove guide pulley (17) with holder (18)   AR13.20-P-0001ELS
13 Disconnect electrical connection on A/C compressor    
14 Detach refrigerant compressor on timing case cover and engine support; place with attached lines to one side and secure against falling down TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
15 Detach electrical line to intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT (A80) and unclip on transmission (24) MODEL 212.061/065/165/261/265 with ENGINE 276.8 with TRANSMISSION 722.9

16 Disconnect electrical connections on electrical transmission oil pump (M42) and unclip at transmission (24)    
17 Remove shield, disconnect electrical connection for transmission control and fasten wiring harness outside the working area MODEL 212.061/065/165/261/265 with ENGINE 276.8 with TRANSMISSION 722.9

IMPORTANT Flexible coupling remains on propeller shaft.
25 Install rear engine crossmember again without engine mount   AR22.10-P-1180CW
26 Lower transmission (24) and have it placed on the rear engine crossmember    
27 Detach oil line (28) for transmission (24) on connecting point and close openings and with grommet MODEL 212.061/065/165/261/265 with ENGINE 276.8 with TRANSMISSION 722.9

39 Detach coolant hose (10) from the connecting point to the charge air cooler circulation pump (12) on low-temperature circuit coolant expansion reservoir (4)    
40 Detach coolant hose (8) from the connecting point to the high temperature engine cooling system expansion reservoir (11)    
41 Detach vent line from low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir    
42 Detach coolant hose (9) from the connecting point for the coolant pump (13)   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ
43 Detach coolant hose (16) from the connecting point for coolant - temperature regulator housing (15)   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ
44 Disconnect engine wiring harness on the vehicle side   AR01.00-P-2410-02ELS
45 Mount adaptation, engine lifting gear and boom crane on engine and lift engine until the engine mount at the front is relieved SPECIAL TOOL Adaptation Figure

47 Lift out engine with transmission (24) NOTES
The engine must not lie on the vehicle. Damage can occur to lines and detachable parts otherwise.
 
48 Install in the reverse order    
49 Check engine cooling system for leaktightness   AR20.00-P-1010EL
50 Check engine cooling system low-temperature circuit for leaktightness   AR20.00-P-1010EL
IMPORTANT Attach tester cap to coolant expansion reservoir low-temperature circuit (4) and apply the test pressure to the low-temperature circuit.
51 Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary   AR27.00-P-0270W
52 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE AP18.00-P-0101CWZ
53 Read out fault memory using the diagnostic system and clear if necessary    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS AD00.00-P-2000-04A
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
54 Carry out engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leaktightness
