Disconnect/connect battery ground line - AR54.10-P-0003EW

DANGER Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

  Disconnect, connect     
1 Switch off all electrical consumers NOTES All electrical consumers must be switched off. Otherwise they may be damaged when the ground line (6) is connected/disconnected.  
2.1 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key from electronic ignition lock control unit MODEL 207, 212, 218
without CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)
 
2.2 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key or KEYLESS-GO start/stop button from electronic ignition lock control unit MODEL 207, 212, 218
with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)
 
3.1 Open engine hood MODEL 207, 218

7 Unfasten nut (5) and remove ground line (6) from negative terminal of on-board electrical system battery (G1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, battery cable to on-board electrical system battery negative terminal/positive terminal *BA54.10-P-1006-01F 
INSPECT Check     
8 Using a diode test lamp, check the electrical system for voltage between the positive line of the on-board electrical system battery (G1) and the disconnected ground line (6) MODEL 207
with CODE B03 (ECO start/stop function)

with CODE ME04 (Mild hybrid drive)

If the diode test lamp lights up, the on-board electrical system is still active because of a defect in the electrical system. In this case:
Disconnect ground line from additional battery for ECO start/stop function.

10 Set time For vehicles without navigation.
