Remove/install engine with front axle carrier - AR01.10-P-2500EW

25.10.11 Value modified: Bolt, rear engine support to frame floor assembly   *BA22.10-P-1005-03E 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1 Deactivate easy entry/exit function Vehicles with code (275) memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors).  
2 Move front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel. NOTES The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling is detached, otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

5 Suction refrigerant out of air conditioning   AR83.30-P-1760CW
6 Detach ground line from battery   AR54.10-P-0003EW

7 Pinch off engine wiring harness IMPORTANT The following electrical connectors should be disconnected:
  • Ground line on ground point at the front left
  • Prefuses
  • Electrical connector for engine wiring harness and engine control unit
  • Electronic transmission control connector
  • Electrical connectors for oxygen sensor on the left and right upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter
  • Ground line from transmission
  • Electrical connector for speed-sensitive power steering solenoid valve

8 Remove purge line (4) from crankcase ventilation vacuum line (5)    
9 Remove brake booster vacuum line (6) from resonance intake manifold    
10 Empty power steering expansion reservoir SPECIAL TOOL Fig 5
11 Open hose clamps (2) and detach hoses (3a) from return lines (3b) IMPORTANT Plug openings.

12 Detach refrigerant line at separation point (20)    
13 Detach the lower radiator grille in the area of the refrigerant line (16)    
14 Unscrew bolt and remove refrigerant line (16) from condenser IMPORTANT Plug openings.

22 Detach propeller shaft (22) from the automatic transmission IMPORTANT Mark propeller shaft position with respect to the output flange so that, at the time of reinstallation, the factory installation position can be reproduced; otherwise, vibrations in the drive line may occur. AR41.10-P-0050EW
23 Remove bracket (24)    
24 Remove front wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels AP40.10-P-4050EW
25 Disconnect electrical connectors from rpm sensors and brake wear sensor at the front right on the front axle electrical distributor IMPORTANT Unclip electrical lines from brackets. AR33.10-P-0100-06CW
26 Remove brake caliper from brake caliper supports and fasten with attached lines to suspension strut ENGINE 272, 273 in MODEL 212 with CODE M005 (4MATIC) divided floating caliper brake AR42.10-P-0070EWC

27 Detach headlamp range adjustment sensor to strut rod

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury  to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

38 Lower engine-transmission unit with front axle carrier    
39 Install in the reverse order

41 Perform a wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200EW
42 Read out fault memory using STAR DIAGNOSIS and erase if necessary    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
