Remove/install the cylinder head - AR01.30-P-5770EW

18 Remove chain tensioner INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The previously installed chain tensioner must not be reinstalled because, during removal, its pressure pin is pressed into the end position. The thrust pin latch prevents this return stroke. This would overstretch the timing chain on reinstalling. AR05.10-P-7800EW
19 Remove both camshaft adjuster (11) at left cylinder head (7) Intake camshaft AR05.20-P-7201EWE

21 Remove intermediate flange (12a) of air shutoff valve (12) Except model 212.057

22 Detach coolant hose (13) from heater valve    
23 Disconnect electrical connector on coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)    
24 Pull out slide rail pins (14) from left cylinder head (7) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to slide rail pins (14) before inserting them. AR01.30-P-5800-04V

Loctite 5970 sealant *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
25 Loosen cylinder head bolts in stages in reverse order of tightening procedure and remove them NOTES To avoid stresses in cylinder head (7), cylinder head bolts must only be loosened when engine has cooled off:

26 Remove LH cylinder head (7) from cylinder crankcase (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Place new cylinder head gasket (15) on cylinder crankcase (1). Pay attention to fitted sleeves for fixing cylinder head (7).  
NOTES Information on applying sealant to cylinder head gasket   AH01.30-P-1000-04RX
CLEANING Clean     
27 Clean sealing surfaces on LH cylinder head (7), timing case cover and cylinder crankcase (1) NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper. The sealing surfaces will be damaged otherwise. AR01.00-P-0050-01A
IMPORTANT Blow out threaded holes of cylinder head bolts in cylinder crankcase (1) with compressed air and clean off engine oil and coolant.

Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
INSPECT Checking     
28 Check cylinder head bolts and replace if required   AR01.30-P-5800-03VA
    Cylinder head bolt *BE01.30-P-1001-04B 
29 Check sealing surfaces on LH cylinder head (7), timing case cover and cylinder crankcase (1) for cracks and unevenness NOTES The cylinder head (7) and cylinder crankcase (1) must not be post-worked (surface grinding). The permissible machining tolerances will be exceeded otherwise. In the event of any complaint, replace cylinder head (7), timing case cover or cylinder crankcase (1).
IMPORTANT Any distortion of the cylinder head (7) occurring in the longitudinal or transverse direction will be balanced out again during reassembly through tightening of the cylinder head bolts.
 
30 Install in the reverse order    
31 Change engine oil and oil filter element    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Engine oil and filter change   AP18.00-P-0101EW
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

32 Carry out an engine test run, and check engine and fuel system for leaks
