Test 1A: Identifying System Problems

NOTE: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position before switching PAD switch positions.
  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Connect DRB to data link connector. Ensure communication exists with mechanical instrument cluster, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Air Bag Control Module (ACM) before proceeding. If any communication problems exist, go to TEST 1A: DRB BLANK SCREEN  under VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS.
  2. Insure PAD switch is operating properly. Pad switch OFF warning light should illuminate when PAD switch is in OFF position. If PAD switch operates properly, go to next step. If PAD switch is not operating properly, go to TEST 1C: REPAIRING PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG DISABLE (PAD) SWITCH  .
  3. Using DRB, read and record both active and stored codes with PAD switch in both ON and OFF positions. If any of following codes (active or stored) are present, replace ACM.
    • ACCELEROMETER
    • INTERNAL DIAGNOSTIC CODE #1
    • INTERNAL DIAGNOSTIC CODE #2
    • INTERNAL DIAGNOSTIC CODE #3
    • INTERNAL DIAGNOSTIC CODE #4
    • OUTPUT DRIVER
    • SAFING SENSOR SHORTED
    • STORED ENERGY LOGIC
    • STORED ENERGY DRIVER
    • STORED ENERGY PASSENGER
  4. If any other active codes are present, perform appropriate diagnostic test. See DIAGNOSTIC FAULT MESSAGES  table. If any other stored codes are present, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES  .
