Test 1C: Repairing Passenger-Side Air Bag Disable (Pad) Switch

NOTE: Perform TEST VER-1A: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs. Each time a connector is disconnected, inspect it to ensure it is in good condition. Always focus on circuit being tested. Dirt, water and corrosion, are most common problems in connectors.
  1. If PAD switch fails to illuminate in OFF position, go to next step. If PAD switch illuminates in ON position or has mechanical problems, replace PAD switch. If PAD switch illuminates in on position, switch is functioning properly at this time.
  2. Using DRB, read active fault code messages. If DRB displays LOSS OF IGNITION RUN-START, go to next step. If DRB does not display LOSS OF IGNITION RUN-START, go to step  9 .
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Remove and inspect fuse No. 9, located in fuse block under right side of instrument panel. If fuse is open (blown), go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  7 .
  4. Measure resistance between ground and component side of fuse No. 9 (Light Green-Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse.
  5. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Access and disconnect ACM harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and ACM harness connector terminal No. 17 (Light Green-Yellow wire). See Fig 1 . In resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace ACM and fuse No. 9.
  6. Access an disconnect PAD switch 4-pin harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and ACM harness connector terminal No. 17 (Light Green-Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Light Green-Yellow wire and replace fuse No. 9. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace PAD switch and fuse No. 9.
  7. Reconnect battery. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ignition switch side of fuse No. 9 (Dark Blue wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in ignition switch output circuit Dark Blue wire between ignition switch and fuse block.
  8. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Access and disconnect ACM harness connector. Reinstall fuse No. 9 in fuse block. Turn ignition on, then reconnect battery. Measure voltage between ground and ACM harness connector terminal No. 17 (Light Green-Yellow wire). See Fig 1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Light Green-Yellow wire between ACM harness connector and fuse block.
  9. Access and disconnect PAD switch 2-pin harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and PAD switch 2-pin harness connector Light Green-Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Light Green-Yellow wire between PAD switch 2-pin harness connector and fuse block.
  10. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and PAD switch 2-pin harness connector Black-Pink wire (ground circuit). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PAD switch If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black-Pink wire between PAD switch 2-pin harness connector and ground.
