Test 9A: Passenger Squib Circuit Open (Active Code)
NOTE:
Perform TEST VER-1A: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs. Each time a connector is disconnected, inspect it to ensure it is in good condition. Always focus on circuit being tested. Dirt, water and corrosion, are most common problems in connectors.
- Ensure PAD switch is in ON position and ignition is off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module. Connect fused jumper wire between Dark Green-Yellow and Black-Yellow wires of passenger-side air bag module 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on, then reconnect battery. Using DRB, read active codes. If DRB displays PASSENGER SQUIB SHORT, replace passenger-side air bag module. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SQUIB SHORT, remove jumper wire and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Disconnect ACM harness connector. Measure resistance of Black-Yellow wire between ACM connector terminal No. 5 and passenger-side air bag module 4-pin harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance of Violet-Yellow wire between ACM connector terminal No. 6 and passenger-side air bag module 4-pin harness connector. If resistance in both tests is less than 5 ohms and no potential causes remain, replace ACM. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- If vehicle is equipped with PAD switch, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with PAD switch, repair open or high resistance in Black-Yellow or Violet-Yellow wire between ACM connector and passenger-side air bag module 4-pin harness connector.
- Disconnect PAD switch 4-pin harness connector. Measure resistance of Black-Yellow wire between ACM connector terminal No. 5 and PAD switch 4-pin harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance of Violet-Yellow wire between ACM connector terminal No. 6 and PAD switch 4-pin harness connector. If resistance in both tests is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
- Measure resistance of Black-Yellow wire between PAD switch 4-pin harness connector and passenger-side air bag module 2-pin squib connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance of Dark Green-Yellow wire between PAD switch 4-pin harness connector and passenger-side air bag module 2-pin squib connector. If resistance in both tests is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
- Ensure PAD switch is in ON position. Measure resistance between PAD switch 4-pin connector (switch side) terminals No. 1 and 3, then terminals No. 2 and 4. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms and no potential causes remain, replace ACM. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace PAD switch.
