Test 10A: Passenger Squib Circuit Shorted (Active Code)
NOTE:
Perform TEST VER-1A: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs. Each time a connector is disconnected, inspect it to ensure it is in good condition. Always focus on circuit being tested. Dirt, water and corrosion, are most common problems in connectors.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Ensure PAD switch is in ON position. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module harness connector. Turn ignition on, then reconnect battery. Using DRB, read active codes. If DRB displays PASSENGER SQUIB OPEN, replace passenger-side air bag module. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SQUIB OPEN, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect battery and wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Disconnect Clockspring 2-pin harness connector. Measure resistance between passenger-side air bag module harness connector Dark Green-Yellow wire and clockspring 2-pin harness connector Black-Light Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 5 ohms repair short between Dark Green-Yellow and Black-Light Blue wires. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between passenger-side air bag module harness connector Dark Green-Yellow wire and clockspring 2-pin harness connector Dark Green-Light Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to nest step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace ACM.
- If vehicle is equipped with PAD switch, go to step 6 . If vehicle is not equipped with PAD switch, repair short between Dark Green-Yellow and Dark Green-Light Blue wires.
- Visually inspect passenger air bag line 1 (Brown-Yellow wire) and line 2 (Violet-Yellow wire) between ACM harness connector and PAD switch 4-pin harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If any problems are found, repair shorted circuits as necessary. If no problems are found, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between PAD switch 4-pin harness connector Dark Green-Yellow and Black-Yellow wires. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short between Dark Green-Yellow and Black-Yellow wires between PAD switch harness connector and passenger-side air bag module connector.
- Ensure PAD switch is in ON position. Measure resistance between PAD switch 4-pin connector (switch side) terminals No. 4 and 3. See Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms and no potential causes remain, replace ACM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PAD switch.
