Remove/install oil pan - AR01.45-P-7500ELB

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
NOTES Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A

1 Completely relieve all pressure in the front suspension struts using a diagnostic system Vehicles with code 489 (AIRmatic)  
2 Deactivate easy entry/exit feature Model 212, 218 with code 275 (Driver's seat, steering column and electrically adjusted outside mirrors with memory) Model 207 with code P64 (Memory package)  
3 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel with holding device NOTES The steering wheel must not be turned when detaching steering coupling.
Otherwise, the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

    IMPORTANT Only raise engine sufficiently that the engine mounts are not under tension.  
6 Secure vehicle on the vehicle lift MODEL 207 AR00.60-P-0100CW

7 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105EW
8 Drain engine oil and catch in a suitable container

9 Remove alternator   AR15.40-P-5032ELB
10 Remove oil line for transmission cooling Vehicles without code M005 (4MATIC) AR27.55-P-0600EV
    Vehicles with code M005 (4M ATIC) AR27.55-P-0600CWX
11 Detach oil dipstick guide tube (5) from oil pan (2) and cylinder head cover and lay to the side in engine compartment INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check sealing ring for oil dipstick guide tube (5) in oil pan (2) and replace if necessary.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, guide tube to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1004-01E 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, guide tube to cylinder head/cylinder head cover/front cover *BA01.45-P-1005-01E 
12 Remove steering coupling MODEL 207 AR46.10-P-8000CW
    MODEL 212, 218 AR46.10-P-8000EW
13 Detach oil lines (6) for turbocharger at oil pan (2) and set aside   AR18.30-P-6850ELB
14.1 Separate, unclip electrical connections on oil level sensor and set aside ENGINE 157 in MODEL 212, 218  
      AR18.40-P-5111ELB
14.2 Separate, unclip electrical connection on oil level check switch and set aside ENGINE 278 in MODEL 207

15 Detach bracket for level sensors from spring control arm    
16 Loosen and lower front axle carrier somewhat Model 207, 212, 218 except code M005 (4MATIC)

    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of suspension components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.
IMPORTANT When working on the front axle, be careful not to scratch, make scribe markings or notches on the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the of the parts will be reduced.
 
17 Remove front axle transmission Vehicles with code M005 (4MATIC) AR33.30-P-0525CWX
18 Remove support brace for front axle transmission Vehicles with code M005 (4MATIC)  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front axle gear support brace to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1008-01E 
19 Remove screw plugs from oil pan (2) Vehicles with code M005 (4MATIC)  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw plug to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1006-01E 
20 Remove oil pan bottom section (1)   AR01.45-P-7500-04MM
REFER TO GENERAL INFORMATION Notes on sealant path for oil pan   AH01.45-P-0001-01MMB
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Notes on sealant path for oil pan bottom section (1).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil pan bottom section to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1003-01E 
    Loctite 5970 sealant *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
21 Remove bolts connecting transmission to engine Model 212, 218 with code M005 (4MATIC) AR27.10-P-0500CWX
    Model 212, 218 except code M005 (4MATIC) AR27.10-P-0500EV
    MODEL 207 AR27.10-P-0500CV
22 Remove screw/bolts (2a) from oil pan (2) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Pay attention to different lengths of screw/bolts.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, oil pan to crankcase/timing case cover/rear end cover *BA01.45-P-1001-01E 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, oil pan to crankcase at transmission end *BA01.45-P-1002-01E 
23 Release oil pan (2) from cylinder crankcase (4) and remove to rear   AR01.45-P-7500-04MM
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to sealing surface of oil pan (2) and, in doing so, observe notes on sealant path on the oil pan (2).  
    Loctite 5970 sealant *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
24 Remove oil level check switch Engine 278, for replacing the oil pan (2)

    MODEL 212, 218 AR18.40-P-5113EL
CLEAN Clean     
25 Clean sealing surfaces on oil pan (2) and cylinder crankcase (4)   AR01.00-P-0050-01A
    NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces will be damaged otherwise.
 
    Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
    Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
26 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
27 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   ENGINE 157 AP18.00-P-0101EWG

DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
28 Carry out an engine test run, checking the engine for leaktightness and proper function
