Remove/install oil pan - AR01.45-P-7500EL

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on threaded connections with aluminum screws/bolts   AH00.00-P-0006-01RM
IMPORTANT Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on avoiding damage through contamination and foreign objects   AH00.00-P-5000-01A
1 Remove front engine cover    
2 Remove air filter housing with engine air intake duct upstream of air filter TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, air filter to cylinder head cover *BA09.10-P-1001-01M 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, air filter to air intake pipe support brace *BA09.10-P-1002-01M 
3 Remove resonance intake manifold   AR09.20-P-1961EL
4 Lift vehicle on vehicle lift    
5 Remove lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105EW
6 Drain engine oil and catch in a suitable container    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-0101CWZ
7 Drain coolant   AR20.00-P-1142EL
IMPORTANT Notes on coolant   AH20.00-N-2080-01A
8 Remove NOx catalytic converters (8) at CATs (7)   AR49.10-P-7100EL
9 Disconnect electrical connection on oil level check switch   AR18.40-P-5113EL
10 Remove ME-SFI [ME] control unit   AR07.08-P-7008EL
11 Remove center section of the bulkhead (78) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure correct seating of the center section of the bulkhead (78).  
12 Remove poly-V belt   AR13.20-P-0001EL
13 Disconnect electrical connection at A/C compressor (A9)    
14 Remove refrigerant compressor (A9) from timing case cover and engine support and lay to one side with attached lines IMPORTANT Secure A/C compressor (A9) to prevent it from falling down.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
15 Detach coolant hose at thermostat housing   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
16 Remove oil dipstick guide tube ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195), 218
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check sealing ring for oil dipstick guide tube in oil pan (2) and replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure correct routing of the connecting cable for the engine oil pump valve.		 AR18.40-P-3510EL
17 Remove front axle transmission ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195) with TRANSMISSION 722.96 with CODE M005 (4MATIC) AR33.30-P-0525CWX
18 Mount engine hoist and raise engine slightly ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195)
without CODE M005 (4MATIC) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 218
IMPORTANT Only lift up the engine until the engine mounts are relieved of load.		 AR33.10-P-0105EW
19 Remove heat shields for engine mount and screw/bolts for the engine support on engine mount ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.080/088/280/288) with TRANSMISSION 722.9 (except 722.96)

ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 218 with TRANSMISSION 725		 AR22.10-P-1260EL

20 Raise engine with engine hoist ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195)
without CODE M005 (4MATIC) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 218
NOTES Lift engine carefully and do not leave touching the partition wall.
Cables, lines or the partition wall can get damaged otherwise.		 AR33.10-P-0105EW
21 Detach guard plate for rack-and-pinion steering (5) from front axle carrier (10) and remove screw/bolts (6) for rack-and-pinion steering (5) on front axle carrier (10) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195) with CODE 211 (Direct-Steer system)
ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 218		 AR46.20-P-0600EL
    ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195)

22 Remove electrical transmission oil pump (M42) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195)  
    without CODE M005 (4MATIC) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 218 AR27.30-P-0651EL
23 Detach clamps and bracket for transmission fluid lines (9L, 9R) from oil pan (2) and transmission (11) and set aside ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195), 218 with TRANSMISSION 722.9  
    NOTES Do not kink or bend the transmission fluid lines (9L, 9R).
Leaks and damage may occur otherwise.		  
    IMPORTANT Seal openings using stop plugs.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil line from oil cooler to engine oil pan *BA27.55-P-1003-01D

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil pan bottom section to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1003-01E 
25 Remove screw/bolts (2a) from oil pan (2) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212 (except 212.095/195), 218 with TRANSMISSION 722.9  
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Pay attention to different lengths of screw/bolts.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, automatic transmission to engine *BA27.40-P-1008-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, oil pan to crankcase at transmission end *BA01.45-P-1002-01E 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, oil pan to crankcase/timing case cover/rear end cover *BA01.45-P-1001-01E 
26 Release oil pan (2) from cylinder crankcase (4) and remove to rear   AR01.45-P-7500-04MM
IMPORTANT Notes on sealant path for oil pan   AH01.45-P-0001-01MMA
    NOTES Do not drive in any tools between cylinder crankcase (4) and oil pan (2) to loosen it; heat oil pan (2) in the area of the sealing surfaces if necessary.
The sealing surfaces will be damaged otherwise!
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to sealing surface of oil pan (2) and, in doing so, observe notes on sealant path on the oil pan (2).		  
    Loctite 5970 sealant *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
27 Remove oil level check switch When installing a new oil pan (2). AR18.40-P-5113EL
CLEAN Clean     
28 Clean sealing surfaces on oil pan (2) and cylinder crankcase (4)   AR01.00-P-0050-01A
    NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can get damaged otherwise.		  
    Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
    Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
29 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
30 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-0101CWZ
31 Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary Transmission 722.9 (except 722.96) AR27.00-P-0270W

32 Check cooling system for leaktightness   AR20.00-P-1010EL
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
33 Carry out engine test run while checking the engine and transmission (11) for leaktightness and proper function
