Adjusting Both Tailgate Hinges

Preliminary work 

• Refer to DISCONNECTING ALL BATTERY GROUND LEADS .
• Refer to REMOVING THE INNER DOOR SILL COVER STRIP ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT .
• Refer to REMOVE REAR SEAT BENCH .
• Refer to REMOVING BOTH REAR SIDE TRIM PANELS .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LEFT AND RIGHT SEAT BELT FINISHER STRIP .
• Refer to REMOVE RIGHT C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL LEFT AND RIGHT .
• Refer to REMOVE THE TRIM PANEL FOR THE STORAGE SHELF .
• Refer to REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR COVERING .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LOADING EDGE TRIM .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM PANEL ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT .
• Refer to REMOVING THE COVER TO THE STORAGE BOX .
• Refer to REMOVING THE REAR LEFT UPPER SEAT BELT .
• Refer to REMOVING THE SOUND INSULATION ON THE REAR SHELF .

• Left hinge arm:

  Lift clamp (1) slightly using a screwdriver, in the direction of the arrow.

• Lift the ball socket of the tension spring (2) for the trunk lid off the ball hub.

  Release the electrical spindle drive on the right hinge arm

  NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE 
  Damage to the spindle drive  .
  If the trunk lid is not opened completely, the spindle drive may be damaged  .

  • Remove and install the spindle drive only when the Trunk lid is open to the maximum extent.
  NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION

• Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.

• Before removing the electrical spindle drive (1) for the trunk lid, make sure that the ball socket (2) is relieved.
• Raise each retaining spring (3) on the hinge arm slightly with a small screwdriver (4).
• Detach the electrical spindle drive (1) on the hinge arm from the ball hub and set it aside.

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Slacken nuts (1) until the tailgate hinge (2) can be shifted.
• Shift tailgate hinge (2) horizontally, till the Trunk lid has the specified gap dimension for the side panel.
• Tighten nuts (1).
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Tailgate hinge to body
  Nut M8
  	tightening torque	19 Nm

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Slacken the nut (1) until the hinge arm can be shifted.
• Shift the hinge arm vertically until the trunk lid has the specified gap dimension to the side panel.
• Tighten nut (1).

  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Hinge arm to hinge support
  Nut
  	Tightening torque	19 Nm

  Check 

• Check the gap dimensions (arrows) between trunk lid and side panels.

  Result 

  » Gap dimensions do not correspond to the specifications.

  Measure

  • Adjust tailgate hinge.

  Mounting electrical spindle drive on the right hinge arm 

  NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION

• Before installing the electrical spindle drive (1) at the hinge arm, make sure that the retaining spring (2) is in its initial position.
• Check the retaining spring (2) for damage; if necessary, renew the electrical spindle drive (1) for the tailgate.

• Press the ball socket (1) onto the ball hub (2) at the hinge arm in the arrow direction until the retaining spring (3) snaps in correctly and audibly.

• Clip in the cable clip (2).
• Connect connectors (1) and lock.

• Left hinge arm:

  Check the clamp (1) is fitted correctly.

• Insert the ball socket of the tension spring (2) at the ball pin on the hinge arm.
