Instrument Panel Assembly: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Before handling the airbag system components, refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" in "AIRBAG SYSTEM". Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  • Be careful not to damage the airbag system harness when servicing the instrument panel. Damage may cause the system to malfunction.
  • Removal/installation of the immobilizer related parts may be needed. For details, refer to the "REGISTRATION MANUAL FOR IMMOBILIZER".
  1. Set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.
  2. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  3. Remove the console box assembly. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>CONSOLE BOX>REMOVAL 
  4. Remove the driver monitoring unit. (Model with driver monitoring system) Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>DRIVER MONITORING UNIT>REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the panel assembly center. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>CENTOR CLUSTER>REMOVAL 
  6. Remove the center information display assembly. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>COCKPIT DISPLAY>REMOVAL .
  7. Remove the ornament panel mid driver assembly. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AIR VENT GRILLE>REMOVAL>SIDE GRILLE .
  8. Remove the cover LWR driver. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER COVER>REMOVAL 
  9. Remove the cover start switch. (Model without push button ignition starter)
    1. Release the claw.
    2. Remove the cover start switch.

  10. Remove the panel start switch. (Model with push button ignition starter) Ref. to SECURITY AND LOCKS>PUSH BUTTON IGNITION SWITCH>REMOVAL .
  11. Remove the combination meter assembly. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER>REMOVAL .
  12. Remove the telematics sub antenna assembly. (Model with telematics) Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>ANTENNA>REMOVAL>TELEMATICS SUB ANTENNA .
  13. Remove the backup unit assembly. Ref. to SECURITY AND LOCKS>BACKUP UNIT>REMOVAL .
  14. Remove the cover center side. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>CENTER CONSOLE>REMOVAL .
  15. Remove the tray center UPR. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>EXTERNAL CONNECTION TERMINAL>REMOVAL>FRONT
  16. Remove the knee airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>KNEE AIRBAG MODULE>REMOVAL .
  17. Remove the driver's airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE>REMOVAL .
  18. Remove the steering wheel assembly. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING WHEEL>REMOVAL
  19. Remove the cover side sill front Ft. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>LOWER INNER TRIM>REMOVAL 
  20. Remove the weather strip body side flange front. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>WEATHER STRIP>REPLACEMENT .
  21. Remove the panel instrument passenger. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>GLOVE BOX>REMOVAL>BACK PANEL .
  22. Remove the trim panel assembly A pillar. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>UPPER INNER TRIM>REMOVAL>A PILLAR TRIM .
  23. Remove the speaker assembly tweeter. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>FRONT SPEAKER>REMOVAL>TWEETER .
  24. Remove the column assembly steering. (If removing the beam steering COMPL) Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING COLUMN>REMOVAL .
  25. Remove the grille front defroster. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AIR VENT GRILLE>REMOVAL>INSTRUMENT PANEL GRILLE>FRONT .
  26. Remove the GPS antenna assembly. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>ANTENNA>REMOVAL>GPS ANTENNA .
  27. Remove the central gateway control module. Ref. to BODY CONTROL/COMMUNICATION SYSTEM>CENTRAL GATEWAY CONTROL MODULE>REMOVAL .
  28. Remove the instrument panel assembly.
    1. Remove the harness clips of the GPS antenna assembly.
    2. Pull out the removed harness to the audio side.

    3. Remove the bolts of the passenger's airbag module.
    4. Disconnect the passenger's airbag module connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>AIRBAG CONNECTOR>PROCEDURE>PASSENGER'S AIRBAG MODULE, REAR SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER RH, FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER & ADAPTIVE FORCE LIMITER .

    5. Remove the harness clips of the speaker assembly tweeter and feeder assembly cord.
    6. Remove the bolts and screws.

    7. Remove the instrument panel assembly.
  29. Remove the duct rear heater front. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AIR VENT DUCT>REMOVAL>REAR DUCT .
  30. Remove the beam steering COMPL.
    1. Remove the body integrated unit (fuse & relay box). Ref. to BODY CONTROL/COMMUNICATION SYSTEM>BODY INTEGRATED UNIT>REMOVAL
    2. Disconnect all harness clips and connectors of the instrument panel harness.
    3. Remove the ground bolt.
    4. Release all lock points for the heater & cooling unit assembly and the beam steering COMPL.
    5. Remove the cap bolt.
    6. Using the TORX® T40, remove the bolts.
    7. Remove the bolts at the floor center.

    8. Using the hexagon wrench with width across flat of 8 mm (0.31 in), loosen the adjuster portion (A) of the adjuster clip space.
      NOTE: The installation position varies depending on the world manufacturer identifier (WMI).
      • LH side for VIN:] JF1############## [model and] JF2############## [model.
      • RH side for VIN:] 4S4############## [model.

    9. Slightly lift the part to detach the left and right pins. Then pull it toward you.
    10. Remove the beam steering COMPL and instrument panel harness as a unit.
      NOTE:
      • Check that all lock points for the harness clips, harness connectors and the beam steering COMPL have been released.
      • The beam steering COMPL is heavy. Work in a team of two persons when removing them from the vehicle, so as not to damage the vehicle interior.
      • Depending on the specifications, a clamp is installed on the driver's side of the beam steering COMPL. Remove it if the beam steering COMPL is replaced with a new part.
