Remove/install engine with transmission - AR01.10-P-2401EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
IMPORTANT The ground line on the battery must always  be detached before beginning work on the fuel system otherwise pressure will be lost in the fuel system through opening a vehicle door or the trunk lid Engine 272.983  
1 Set DIRECT SELECT gear selector switch to position "N" and release parking brake Transmission 722.9  
2 Detach ground line from battery   AR54.10-P-0003EW

3 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100EWS
4 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position   AR88.40-P-1000EW
5 Remove air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150EWS
6 Remove middle reinforcement at the front Engine 273

8 Attach guard plate for radiator/condenser Engine 273

9 Remove poly-V belt   AR13.20-P-0001EWS
10 Remove wiring harness from engine and transmission   AR01.10-P-2400-11EW
11 Drain coolant at radiator   AR20.00-P-1142EWS

12 Drain engine oil    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Engine oil and filter change AP18.00-P-0101EW
13 Remove A/C compressor (A9) from timing case cover and engine support IMPORTANT Attach refrigerant compressor (A9) at side in bottom of engine compartment with piping connected. AR83.55-P-5300EW
14 Detach power steering pump (2) from timing case cover and major assembly carrier IMPORTANT Set power steering pump (2) with expansion reservoir and attached lines aside.

15 Unscrew nut (5) and remove hydraulic line (3) with bracket from ALT (G2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.30-P-1006-01T

17 Detach catalytic converters (4) from exhaust manifolds TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA49.10-P-1001-01AE 
18 Remove bracket (7) on transmission TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA49.10-P-1023-01AE 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA49.10-P-1024-01AE 
19 Support transmission    
20 Remove rear engine crossmember (6) and engine mount   AR22.10-P-1180CW
NOTES Notes on bolted connections with self tapping screws AH00.00-P-0007-01SF
21 Remove propeller shaft on transmission   AR41.10-P-0050EW
22 Install rear engine crossmember (6) without engine mount   AR22.10-P-1180CW
23 Lower transmission and have it placed on the rear engine crossmember (6)    
24 Detach switching rod on transmission Transmission 716.6 AR26.60-P-0600-02CW

25 Remove bolts (20) from engine mount on front axle carrier TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA22.10-P-1002-03E 
26.1 Remove transmission oil cooling lines (10) at connecting points Transmission 722.9 AR27.10-P-0501-03CW
IMPORTANT Seal connections with plugs.

29 Detach coolant line (14) from heater cooler    
30 Remove vacuum line of brake booster   AR43.10-P-0355EW
31 Disconnect vacuum line (19) from purge line (9) (arrow)    
32 Remove air duct housing (18)   AR09.20-P-0080EW
33 Detach bolt (21) for left engine mount from engine support IMPORTANT Unscrew bolt (21) by 3 to 4 revolutions.

34 Remove fuel pressure via service valve on fuel distributor rail   AR07.03-P-1460-01VA

35 Detach fuel line (16) from fuel distributor IMPORTANT Seal connections with plugs.

36 Lift out engine together with transmission NOTES Pay attention when lifting out engine that no cables and lines are damaged and that engine does not lean against partition wall.
IMPORTANT Turn left engine mount in such a way that the guide pins (arrows) run parallel to the engine.

37 Install in the reverse order    
38 Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary Transmission 722.9 AR27.00-P-0270W
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
