Remove/install timing case cover - AR01.40-P-8000ELB

25.1.12 Value changed: Screw/bolt, timing case cover to cylinder crankcase, stage 1 Engine 278 *BA01.40-P-1001-01K 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install

1 Remove fan unit Model 207 AR20.40-P-5050CW
Model 212, 218 AR20.40-P-5050EL
2 Detach vacuum hoses on the turbocharger adjusters    
3 Remove charge air ducts   AR09.41-P-8620ELB
4 Remove upper guide pulley at timing case cover (1)   AR13.20-P-0001ELB
5 Rotate engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of rotation of engine to a 40°  crankshaft angle after top dead center (TDC) on cylinder 1 IMPORTANT Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation up to a 40°  marking on belt pulley/vibration damper matches the reference edge on the poly-V belt tensioning device.  
6 Remove belt pulley/vibration damper Model 207 AR03.30-P-1600FH
Model 212, 218 AR03.30-P-1600EL
7 Remove oil pan   AR01.45-P-7500ELB
8 Disconnect electrical connections for engine oil pump valve (Y130) at timing case cover and place electrical line to one side    
9 Detach A/C compressor at timing case cover and place to one side with the connected lines TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
10 Remove poly-V-belt tensioning device   AR13.20-P-0001ELB
11 Remove coolant thermostat   AR20.10-P-2460ELB
12 Detach coolant lines (2, 3) and coolant hose (4) if the charge air cooler on timing case cover (1)    
13 Remove coolant pump   AR20.10-P-1271ELB
14 Remove oil filter housing   AR18.20-P-3471ELB
15 Remove oil cooler (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA18.30-P-1002-01G 
16 Remove front cover Left cover AR01.30-P-5700ELA
Right cover AR01.30-P-5700ELB
17 Loosen screw/bolt (9a) on the right chain tensioner and pull out INSTALLATION IMPORTANT It is essential that both bolts (9a, 9b) of the chain tensioner must be tightened with torque. AR05.10-P-7800ELB
18 Remove screw/bolts (7) for the cylinder head (8) at timing case cover (1) Remove screw/bolts (7) and fix with a cable tie (01).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.30-P-1002-01X 
19 Remove bolts of timing case cover (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe different bolt lengths and diameters:

20 Detach timing case cover (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace crankshaft radial sealing ring. Replace both seals in timing case cover (1) and apply sealant to sealing surface of the timing case cover (1):

CLEAN Clean     
21 Clean sealing surfaces NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper. The sealing surfaces will be damaged otherwise. AR01.00-P-0050-01A

Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
22 Install in the reverse order    
23 Check engine oil level; correct if necessary   AP18.00-P-0101EW
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

24 Carry out an engine test run and check engine for leaks
