Remove/Install Soft Top - AR77.30-P-1002RGR

REMOVING Remove     
1 Check whether the ground clearance of the vehicle is sufficient to push a mobile boom crane (18) beneath the vehicle. If applicable, position vehicle with all complete wheels on drive-on ramps If a movable overhead crane is not available for removing and installing the soft top (17).
NOTES If the ground clearance of the vehicle is not sufficient, the vehicle should only be lifted with the aid of drive-on ramps.
Otherwise the body can twist when removing and installing the soft top (17) and body tensions can occur.
 
2 Detach rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module and place to one side with electrical lines still connected NOTES Ensure that the electrical lines are not stretched or kinked.
In order to prevent damage.

3 Remove rear wall trim   AR68.30-P-4750RGR
4 Open soft top (17) until the soft top closings on the right and left are in central position    
5 To release the hydraulic unit's pressure, open emergency operation valve (3) one turn with an Allen key (size 4) IMPORTANT Accessible through opening (arrow A) in soft top crossmember (17).  
6 Unclip HERMES control unit with bracket and place to one side with connected electrical lines Model 190.4 with code 360 (HERMES UMTS)
Model 190.4 with code 362 (HERMES LTE)
NOTES Ensure that the electrical lines are not stretched or kinked.
In order to prevent damage.

7 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)    
8 Unclip electrical connections (1, 2), release and disconnect NOTES Ensure that the electrical lines are not stretched or kinked.
In order to prevent damage.
 
9 Remove soft top mechanism control unit   AR77.39-P-3606RGR 
10 Remove bracket of the soft top mechanism control unit    
11 Remove front trunk trim   AR68.30-P-4602RGR
12 Loosen nuts (4) on the tensioning straps (3) until they can be extended from the body cutout IMPORTANT Ensure that the position of the counter nuts does not change.  
13 Remove the retainers (5) on the water drain (6) and disconnect the drain hoses (7) from the water drain (6)    
14 Remove screw/bolts (9)    
15 Remove rear panel   AR64.10-P-5746RG
16 Remove bolts (11)    
17 Unscrew seat belt guide bracket screws (12)    
18 Unscrew screws (14) and screw the handles (20) with the screws (14) SPECIAL TOOL Handles Fig 3
19 Remove the speaker from the side trim (rear) Model 190.4 with code 810 (Sound system)
Model 190.4 with code 811 (Advanced sound system)
IMPORTANT Carry out this instruction on both sides.

20 Remove insulation behind the speakers    
21 Loosen water drain (6) on all sides and slip it over the soft top (17) in the rear area IMPORTANT Carry out this instruction on both sides.  
22 Make a repair cut on the water drain (6) at the level of the line (B) IMPORTANT Carry out this instruction on both sides.  
23 Remove clamps (15) from the area (C) with a suitable tool IMPORTANT Carry out this instruction on both sides.  
24 Move the bow (arrow E) in the direction of the center of the vehicle    
25 Insert clamps (15) in the area (D) with a suitable tool NOTES Ensure that the clamps (15) have been positioned correctly.
Otherwise, damage can occur to the vehicle and the soft top (17).
 
26 Open soft top (17) half ways and secure it IMPORTANT Helper required.

27 Mark installation location of soft top (17) with a suitable tool    
28 Remove screws/bolts (16) from soft top (17) Carry out this instruction on both sides.    
29 Open the soft top (17) completely and move it all the way down to rear. IMPORTANT Helper required.  
30 Close trunk lid    
31 Cover the left and right side wall and the trunk lid with a suitable device    
32 Move the boom crane (18) and the load tilter (19) beneath the vehicle from one side and position the vehicle center above the soft top (17)    
33 Connect the boom crane (18) to the handles (20) by means of the load tilter (19) SPECIAL TOOL Handles Fig 3
34 Attach the electrical subharness of the soft top (17) and the hydraulic unit to with hydraulic lines to the crossmember with a suitable tool    
35 Lift soft top (17) out of vehicle NOTES Ensure that the electrical and hydraulic lines are not stretched or kinked.
In order to prevent damage.
NOTES Ensure that tensioning straps (3) do not tilt.
Otherwise, damage can occur to the vehicle and the soft top (17).
NOTES Ensure that the water drain (6) in the rear area does not tilt.
Otherwise, the vehicle may be damaged.
IMPORTANT Three helpers required.
 
36 Replace the soft top's (17) water drain (6) IMPORTANT The water drain (6) is to be replaced when the soft top (17) is removed. AR77.30-P-3370RGR 
CLEAN Clean     
37 Clean the sealing surfaces of the circumferential water drain (6) Cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1025-04A 
  Preparatory tasks     
38 Pull a cord through the eyes of the clamps (15) on the left and right and place this towards the front IMPORTANT Ensure that the cords are freely movable and not stuck.  
39 Attach a cord to the tensioning straps (3) on the left and right and guide this through the body opening IMPORTANT Ensure that the cords are freely movable.  
40 Loosen the water drain (6) on all sides and slip it over the soft top (17) in the rear area    
REMOVING Install     
41 Lift the soft top (17) into the vehicle in a horizontal position and position it on the markings. NOTES Guide water drain (6) in rear area through the body opening.
Otherwise, damage can occur to the vehicle and the soft top (17).
NOTES Ensure that the electrical and hydraulic lines are not stretched or kinked.
In order to prevent damage.
NOTES Ensure that the tensioning straps (3) lead into the body opening.
Otherwise, damage can occur to the vehicle and the soft top (17).
IMPORTANT Three helper required.
 
42 Open trunk lid    
43 Position water drain (6) and the tensioning straps (3) in the body cutout IMPORTANT Ensure that the cords the retaining clips (15) are not pinched.  
44 Remove the boom crane (18) and load tilter (19)    
45 Unscrew bolts (14) and remove the handles (20) SPECIAL TOOL Handles Fig 3
46 Tighten screws/bolts (14) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, roll bar to soft top cross member *BA91.50-P-1008-01A 
47 Tighten screws/bolts (16) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, main bearing to B-pillar *BA77.33-P-1003-02D 
48 Tighten nuts (4) on the tensioning straps (3)    
49 Connect drain hoses (7) with the water drain (6) and secure the water drain (6) with the retainers (5) IMPORTANT Replace retainers (5).  
50 Fasten water drain (6) in area of B-pillar   AR77.30-P-3370-01RGR 
    Lubricant, rubber assembly 1 L *BR00.45-Z-1010-06A 
51 Press water drain (6) against the circumferential edge    
52 Remove clamps (15) from the area (D), move the bow (arrow E) outwards and insert the clamps (15) in the area (C)    
53 Tighten screws (9) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, mount for rear wall cross member on body shell *BA64.10-P-1002-01B 
54 Close soft top (17) mechanically   AR77.30-P-1020RGR 
INSPECT Check     
55 Check soft top (17) for leaks    
INSTALLING Install     
56 Open the soft top (17) completely and move it all the way down to rear. IMPORTANT Helper required.  
57 Tighten bolts (11) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, mount for rear shelf cover *BA64.10-P-1001-01B 
58 Install rear wall   AR64.10-P-5746RG
59 Close the emergency operation valve through the opening (arrow A) in the crossmember of the soft top (17) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Emergency operation valve at hydraulic unit *BA77.37-P-1001-01A 
60 Install insulation behind speaker in the rear passenger compartment    
61 Install speaker in the side trim (rear) Model 190.4 with code 810 (Sound system)
Model 190.4 with code 811 (Advanced sound system)

62 Tighten seat belt guide bracket (12) screws Make sure seat belt is not twisted when installed.

63 Install the soft top control unit's bracket    
64 Install soft top mechanism control unit   AR77.39-P-3606RGR 
65 Connect electrical connections (1, 2) and lock    
66 Install HERMES control unit with the bracket Model 190.4 with code 360 (HERMES UMTS)
Model 190.4 with code 362 (HERMES LTE)
