SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.
Put on gloves to protect your hands.
Take care not to scratch the dashboard, the body, or the related parts.
Take care not to bend the brackets.
Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION ), then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
Remove these items from the dashboard:
- A-pillar trims, both sides
  1. Sedan (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS - SEDAN )
  2. Sport Wagon (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS - SPORT WAGON )
- Center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Dashboard center lower covers, both sides (see DASHBOARD CENTER LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Side defogger vent trims, both sides (see COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Driver's outer dashboard trim (see DRIVER'S OUTER DASHBOARD TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Dashboard side vents, both sides (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Side pockets, both sides (see SIDE POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Glove box (see GLOVE BOX SEPARATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Passenger's dashboard undercover (see PASSENGER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Gauge control module (see GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT )
- Speaker cover (see SPEAKER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Center pocket (see CENTER POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Audio unit:
  - Without navigation: Audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
  - With navigation: Audio-navigation unit (see AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- With navigation: Audio/navigation switch panel (see AUDIO-NAVIGATION SWITCH PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Display unit:
  - Without navigation: Audio-HVAC display unit (see AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
  - With navigation: Navigation display unit (see NAVIGATION DISPLAY UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Sunlight sensor (see SUNLIGHT SENSOR REPLACEMENT )
- With navigation: Front center speaker (see SPEAKER TEST/REPLACEMENT )
- In-car temperature sensor (see IN-CAR TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT )
- Steering column (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
- A/T: Shift lever (see SHIFT LEVER REMOVAL )
Driver's Side
Detach the harness clips (A, B) from the dashboard.

Middle Area
Detach the dashboard wire harness clip (A) and the harness holder (B) (M/T) or the harness clips (C) (A/T) from the center pocket frame (D).

Remove the bolts (A) and the screws (B), then remove the center pocket frame (C) from the dashboard.

Detach the audio wire harness clips (A) from the dashboard center stay, and detach the antenna lead clip (B) from the center frame.

Passenger's Side
Disconnect the antenna lead connector (A).

Detach the audio wire harness clips (A), the dashboard wire harness connector clip (B), and the audio wire harness connector clip (C) from the dashboard.

Remove the screw, then remove passenger's dashboard duct B.

Pull out the audio wire harness (A) from the display unit opening.
Disconnect the passenger's airbag connector (A), and detach the dashboard wire harness clips (B). Remove the passenger's airbag mounting bolts.

Remove the bolts securing the dashboard (A).

Lift up on the dashboard to release it from the guide pins (B) and the center pin (C) on the dashboard from the grommet (D). Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening.
While holding the dashboard (A) away from the body, detach the antenna lead clip (B) from the passenger's side bracket (C).

Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening.
NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its center lower cover opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.
Remove the screws, then remove the front defogger duct (A) and both front dashboard stays (B) from the dashboard (C).

Remove the screws, then remove the dashboard duct (A) from the dashboard (B).

Remove the screws, then remove passenger's dashboard duct A from the dashboard (B).

Remove the screws, then remove the dashboard center stay (A) from the dashboard (B).

Remove the passenger's airbag (see FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
Assemble the dashboard and the steering hanger beam in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Replace the passenger's airbag mounting bolts with new ones.
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Make sure the dashboard wire harness, the audio wire harness, and the antenna lead are routed properly and not pinched.
- Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
- Push the harness clips and the connector clips into place securely.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
- A/T: If necessary, adjust the shift cable (see SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT ).
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
