Installation [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Install 2 engine hangers with 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 33 N.m (337 kgf/cm, 24 ft.lbf) 

      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 No. 1 Engine Hanger
      *2 No. 2 Engine Hanger

      HINT: 

      No. 1 Engine Hanger 12281-31110
      No. 2 Engine Hanger 12282-31140
      Bolt 91671-C0830
  2. REMOVE ENGINE STAND 
    1. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
    2. Lift the engine and remove it from the engine stand.
    3. Place the engine onto a work bench.
  3. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
    2. Slowly lower the engine into the engine compartment.
    3. Install the front engine mounting insulator LH with the 3 nuts and 2 bolts.

      for nut A 

      Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

      for nut B 

      Torque: 40 N.m (408 kgf/cm, 30 ft.lbf) 

    4. Install the front engine mounting insulator RH with the 3 nuts and 2 bolts.

      for nut A 

      Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

      for nut B 

      Torque: 40 N.m (408 kgf/cm, 30 ft.lbf) 

    5. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 engine hangers.
  4. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.
      • SST: 09213-54015 
        1. 91651-60855
      • SST: 09330-00021 
    2. Install the front spacer, drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and rear spacer to the crankshaft.

      Automatic Transmission Side

      HINT: 

      As the front spacer, drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and rear spacer are not reversible, be sure to install them in the correct direction as shown in the illustration.

    3. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the end of the 8 bolts.

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

    4. Uniformly install and tighten the 8 bolts in several steps in the sequence shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 34 N.m (350 kgf/cm, 25 ft.lbf) 

      NOTE:

      Do not start the engine for at least 1 hour after installing.

    5. Tighten the 8 bolts an additional 90°.
      NOTE:

      Tighten diametrically opposite bolts in pairs.

  5. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 

    for 2WD: (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - ] )

    for 4WD: (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2019 - ] )

  6. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  7. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  8. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  9. CONNECT NO. 1 AND NO. 2 FUEL PIPES 
    1. Connect the No. 1 and No. 2 fuel pipes (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).
    2. Install the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp to the connector.
  10. CONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the 2 hoses and heater water hose assembly.

      HINT: 

      The direction of the hose clamp is indicated in the illustration.

  11. CONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Connect the ECM connector.
      1. Attach the grommet to the wire harness support.

      2. Pass the wire harness into the vehicle and install the wire harness support.
      3. Connect the 6 connectors and attach the clamp.

    2. for 4WD:
      1. Attach the clamp and connect the connector.

    3. Connect the connector and install the bolt.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

  12. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2019 - 08/2022] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2022 - ] )

  13. INSTALL FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER 
  14. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  15. INSTALL STARTER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  16. INSTALL GENERATOR ASSEMBLY

  17. INSTALL WIRING HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

  28. CONNECT SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  29. CONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2015 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4 [08/2020 - ]

  30. CONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  31. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  32. CONNECT VACUUM HOSE (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  33. INSTALL AIR TUBE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  34. CONNECT NO. 1 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  35. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  36. INSTALL FAN SHROUD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  37. CONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  38. INSTALL RADIATOR RESERVOIR TANK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  39. INSTALL NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  40. INSTALL NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  41. INSTALL RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  42. INSTALL RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  43. INSTALL UPPER FRONT BUMPER RETAINER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  44. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the air cleaner case sub-assembly with the 3 bolts.

      Torque: 12 N.m (122 kgf/cm, 9 ft.lbf) 

    2. Attach the wire harness clamp.
    3. Install the air cleaner filter element.
  45. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP AND HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  46. INSTALL FRONT BUMPER COVER 

    w/o Intuitive Parking Assist System: (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2021 - ] )

    w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System: (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to INSTALLATION [08/2021 - ] )

  47. INSTALL V-BANK COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  48. INSTALL BATTERY TRAY 
  49. INSTALL BATTERY 
  50. INSTALL BATTERY HOLD DOWN CLAMP 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  51. CONNECT CABLE TO POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  52. ADD ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  53. ADD ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  54. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - ] )

  55. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 08/2022] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2022 - ] ).

  56. INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  57. INSPECT FOR ENGINE OIL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  58. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK 
  59. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  60. INSTALL UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL 
    1. Install the upper radiator support seal with the 13 clips.
  61. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL RH 
    1. Install the front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal RH with the 5 clips.
  62. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL LH 
    1. Install the front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal LH with the 5 clips.
  63. INSTALL FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH 
    1. Install the front fender apron seal RH with the 4 clips.
  64. INSTALL FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH 
    1. w/o KDSS:
      1. Install the front fender apron seal LH with the 5 clips.
    2. w/ KDSS:
      1. Install the front fender apron seal LH with the 7 clips.
  65. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the rear engine under cover assembly with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N.m (296 kgf/cm, 21 ft.lbf) 

  66. INSTALL TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER 
    1. Install the transmission under cover with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N.m (296 kgf/cm, 21 ft.lbf) 

  67. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Hook the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

    2. Install the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N.m (296 kgf/cm, 21 ft.lbf) 

  68. INSTALL FRONT LOWER BUMPER COVER (w/o Intuitive Parking Assist System) 
    1. Install the front bumper cover lower with the 5 bolts and clip.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

  69. INSTALL AIR INTAKE DUCT LH (w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System) 
    1. Install the air intake duct LH with the 2 screws.
    2. Install the clip and bolt.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

  70. INSTALL AIR INTAKE DUCT RH (w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System) 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  71. INSTALL FRONT LOWER BUMPER COVER (w/ Intuitive Parking Assist System) 
    1. Install the front lower bumper cover with the 4 bolts and clip.

      Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

  72. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT (for 4WD with Intuitive Parking Assist System) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14 [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14 [08/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14 [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14 [08/2021 - ]

  73. PERFORM RESET MEMORY 

    for 2WD: (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - ] )

    for 4WD: (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - ] )

  74. INSPECT IGNITION TIMING 

    See step  1[08/2015 - 08/2019], or see step  1[08/2019 - ]

  75. INSPECT ENGINE IDLE SPEED 

    See step  2[08/2015 - 08/2019], or see step  2[08/2019 - ]

  76. INSPECT CO/HC 

    See step  4[08/2015 - 08/2019], or see step  4[08/2019 - ]

  77. INSTALL HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the hood sub-assembly with the 8 bolts.

      for bolt A 

      Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf/cm, 10 ft.lbf) 

      for bolt B 

      Torque: 18 N.m (178 kgf/cm, 13 ft.lbf)

    2. Connect the washer nozzle hose.
  78. ADJUST HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY

  79. CHARGE REFRIGERANT

  80. WARM UP ENGINE
