Remove/Install Soft Top Canvas - AR77.31-P-1001RGR

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove the soft top   AR77.30-P-1002RGR 
2 Install the soft top on the device (32)   AR77.30-P-1002-03RGR 
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 25 62 00 Lift table   WS01.00-P-0264A

3 Remove the rear soft top headliner   AR77.30-P-1012RGR 
4 Remove the front left and right seals (2)   AR77.30-P-3361RGR 
5 Remove the rear left and right seals (3)   AR77.30-P-3363RGR 
6 Using a suitable tool, pull out the rear retaining strip (1.1) of soft top canvas (1) from clamping bracket (4).    
7 Remove the retaining clips (5) that remain in the clamping bracket (4)    
8 Unclip the left and right grab handle (6) on the rear window frame (7)    
9 Disconnect left and right electrical connector (8) from rear window heater    
10 Drill out rivet heads on rivets (11) and suction off drill shavings IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

Wet/dry vacuum cleaner
 
11 Remove the clamping tab (1.2) from the rear supporting bow (9) IMPORTANT The clamping tab (1.2) is bonded to the rear supporting bow (9).  
12 Remove the clamping tab (1.3) from the center supporting bow (10) IMPORTANT The clamping tab (1.3) is bonded to the center supporting bow (10).  
13 Open the Velcro fastener on the left and right tab (1.5)    
14 Unscrew screw (12) on the left and right Velcro strip (1.6)    
15 Unscrew screws (15) on the left and right seal retaining rail (13) and remove the seal retaining rails (13)    
16 Unscrew the screws (16) on the left and right retaining strip (1.8)    
17 Unscrew bolts (17)    
18 Detach left and right retaining strip (1.7) of soft top canvas (1) from soft top frame.    
19 Detach left and right retaining strips (1.8) from soft top bow (18).    
20 Fold over chafe protection (19), unhook tension cable (20) from spring (21) and remove tension cable (20) from guide (22) IMPORTANT Comply with the installation location of the tension cable (20) in the guide (22).  
21 Release and disconnect electrical connector (23)    
22 Cut through the cable ties (24) and remove the electrical wiring harness (25) from the soft top bow (18) NOTES Do not unclip retaining clips on electrical wiring harness (25) from soft top bow (18). Otherwise the surface finish on the magnesium soft top bow (18) can be damaged resulting in corrosion.  
23 Guide the electrical wiring harness (25) out of the tabs (1.4) on the insulation mat (26)    
24 Fold the soft top canvas (1) at the rear upwards, fold over to the front as far as the retaining strip (1.9) and remove the bonding of the soft top canvas (1) on the soft top bow (18)    
25 Undip the retaining strip (1.9) from the soft top bow (18)    
26 Detach left and right tensioning cable (20) on soft top bow (18).    
27 Remove the soft top canvas (1) in the area of the adhesive tape strip (28) from the soft top bow (18)    
28 Unhook the retaining strip (1.10) from the soft top bow (18) and remove the soft top canvas (1) IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
INSTALLING Install     
29 Prepare soft top frame NOTES Only work with clean hands and gloves and a dean tool. Otherwise, the soft top canvas (1) will be soiled and is then very difficult to clean. AR77.31-P-1001-05RGR

30 Prepare the soft top canvas (1)   AR77.31-P-1001-04RGR 
    Repair kit for soft top canvas *BR00.45-Z-1017-08A 
31 Align the soft top canvas (1) IMPORTANT Aid of helper required. AR77.31-P-1001-06RGR

32 Fold up soft top canvas (1) at rear and fold forward completely. IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
33 Bond the soft top canvas (1) IMPORTANT Aid of helper required. AR77.31-P-1001-07RGR

34 Attach the soft top canvas (1) on the left and right retaining strip (1.8) and the retaining strip (1.10) to the soft top bow (18)    
35 Attach left and right retaining strip (1.7) of soft top canvas (1) on soft top frame.    
36 Position a new retaining clip (5) on the left and right of the joint (arrow A) and attach to the rear retaining strip (1.1) Repair kit for soft top canvas *BR00.45-Z-1017-08A 
37 Attach new retaining clips (5) opposite the installation markings (arrow B) on the rear retaining strip (1.1) Repair kit for soft top canvas *BR00.45-Z-1017-08A 
38 Clip rear retaining strip (1.1) into tensioning bracket (4). IMPORTANT The joint (arrow A) of the rear retaining strip (1.1) should be located opposite the hole (arrow C) in the clamping bracket (4).  
39 Guide the locking hook (30) and the guide pins (31) of the front lock completely into the mounts on the device (32) NOTES Ensure that the locking hook (30) and the guide pins (31) of the front lock have been completely guided into the mounts on the device (32). Otherwise, the soft top canvas (1) cannot be tensioned correctly onto the soft top frame.

40 Hook both soft top tensioning straps (14) into device (32) and tighten nuts (34). NOTES Do not loosen counternuts (35). Otherwise the factory adjustment for soft top tensioning straps (14) can be changed.

41 Push an Allen key (size 6) in the emergency actuation (arrow D) and thus lock the front lock completely in the mounts of the device (32) NOTES The Allen key (size 6) must be pressed into motor shaft via a spring-loaded end stop. Otherwise, the mechanical components of the deflector can be damaged.

42 Position the insulation mat (26) above the center of the supporting bow (10)    
43 Tighten the soft top canvas (1) with new screws (17) on the soft top bow (18) IMPORTANT Bolts (17) are self-locking and must therefore be replaced.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, inner headliner to front bow *BA77.33-P-1002-02D 
44 Remove the protective foils from the adhesive tape strip (38) on the center supporting bow (10) and bond the clamping tab (1.3) to the center supporting bow (10)    
45 Remove the protective foil from the adhesive tape strip (37) on the rear supporting bow (9) and bond the clamping tab (1.2) to the rear supporting bow (9)    
46 Rivet the clamping tab (1.3) to the center supporting bow (10) IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

47 Tighten the left and right retaining strip (1.8) with new screws (16) on the soft top bow (18) IMPORTANT The screws (16) are self-locking and must therefore be renewed.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, inner headliner to front bow *BA77.33-P-1002-02D 
48 Guide the electrical wiring harness (25) through the tabs (1.4) on the insulation mat (26)    
49 Connect the electrical connector (23) and attach the electrical wiring harness (25) with new cable ties (24) to the soft top bow (18)    
50 Hook the tension cable (20) into the spring (21)    
51 Position the tension cable (20) in the guide (22) and fold over the chafe protection (19) IMPORTANT Ensure the tension cables (20) are seated correctly in the guide (22).  
52 Install the left and right seal retaining rail (13) and tighten with screws (15)    
53 Tighten the left and right Velcro strip (1.6) with screws (12)    
54 Connect the left and right tab (1.5) on the Velcro fastener with the correct tensioning strap (29)    
55 Connect the left and right electrical connector (8) of the rear window heater    
56 Clip the left and right grab handle (6) on the rear window frame (7)    
57 Install the rear left and right seals (3)   AR77.30-P-3363RGR 
58 Install the front left and right seals (2)   AR77.30-P-3361RGR 
59 Install the rear soft top headliner   AR77.30-P-1012RGR 
60 Remove soft top from device (32)    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 25 62 00 Lift table   WS01.00-P-0264A
