CAUTION: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury. NOTE: Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced. NOTE: If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced. Preliminary Procedures Remove the windshield. Refer to Windshield Replacement . Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel with windshield defroster nozzle. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel with Windshield Defroster Nozzle Grille Replacement . Remove the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement . Note the routing of the headliner wiring harness down the left windshield pillar and through the openings in the instrument panel down to the instrument panel junction panel to ensure proper reinstallation. Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connectors at the instrument panel electrical junction panel and pull the wiring harness up through the openings in the instrument panel. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement . Remove the sunshade retainers. Refer to Sunshade Retainer Replacement . Remove the overhead console. Refer to Roof Console Replacement . Remove the sunroof opening trim finish lace, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement . Remove the overhead assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement . Remove the left and right body hinge pillar trim panels. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side and Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side . Remove the left and right center pillar upper garnish moldings. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement . Remove the left and right body lock pillar upper garnish moldings. Refer to Body Lock Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper (SUV) or Body Lock Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper (SUT) .
1	Headliner Trim Panel Assembly Procedure Remove all the plastic push pin retainers from the headliner. With the aid of an assistant remove the headliner trim panel through the windshield opening.

Preliminary Procedures

Remove the windshield. Refer to Windshield Replacement .
Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel with windshield defroster nozzle. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel with Windshield Defroster Nozzle Grille Replacement .
Remove the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement .
Note the routing of the headliner wiring harness down the left windshield pillar and through the openings in the instrument panel down to the instrument panel junction panel to ensure proper reinstallation.
Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connectors at the instrument panel electrical junction panel and pull the wiring harness up through the openings in the instrument panel.
Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement .
Remove the sunshade retainers. Refer to Sunshade Retainer Replacement .
Remove the overhead console. Refer to Roof Console Replacement .
Remove the sunroof opening trim finish lace, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement .
Remove the overhead assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement .
Remove the left and right body hinge pillar trim panels. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side and Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
Remove the left and right center pillar upper garnish moldings. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement .
Remove the left and right body lock pillar upper garnish moldings. Refer to Body Lock Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper (SUV) or Body Lock Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper (SUT) .

Headliner Trim Panel Assembly

Procedure

Remove all the plastic push pin retainers from the headliner.
With the aid of an assistant remove the headliner trim panel through the windshield opening.
