Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Disconnect the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
- Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Remove the engine sight shield. Engine Sight Shield Replacement
- Front Compartment Fuse Block - Remove - Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement

Disconnect the electrical connector:
- Engine Control Module to Body Wiring Harness (8)
- Transmission Control Module (6)
- Electrical Connector (5) @ Fuse Block - Remove
- {If equipped} Unclip the engine oil heater wiring harness (3) from the 3 wiring harness retainer (2).
- Wiring Harness Ground Nut (7) - Remove
- Engine Control Module and Electronic Brake Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module and Electronic Brake Control Module Bracket Replacement
Retainer (1) - Unclip
- Wiring Harness Ground Nut (2) - Position aside
- Generator and Starter Cable (4) - Remove
- Dash Upper Extension Panel Opening Cover - Remove - Dash Upper Extension Panel Opening Cover Replacement
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
- Front Compartment Insulator - Remove - Front Compartment Insulator Replacement
- Exhaust Front Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
- Remove the front bumper fascia. Front Bumper Fascia Replacement
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling
- Drain the transmission fluid. Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill
{If equipped} Disconnect the electrical connector (1) at the engine oil heater (2).
{If equipped} Remove the 2 engine oil heater bolts (1).
- {If equipped} Remove the engine oil heater (2).
Remove the 2 exhaust particulate sensor control module bracket bolts (2).
- Hang the exhaust particulate sensor control module bracket (1) aside.
- CAUTION:
Do not disconnect the nitrogen oxide sensor from the nitrogen oxide sensor control module. A separation of the two components may cause a defect on the nitrogen oxide sensor control module. Always replace the nitrogen oxide sensor along with the nitrogen oxide sensor control module as an assembly.
Disconnect the electrical connector. (2)
- Wiring Harness Retainer (1, 3) - Unclip
Remove the 2 nitrogen oxides sensor control module nuts (1).
- Remove the nitrogen oxides sensor control module (2).
Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Unclip [2x]
- Lower the vehicle.
- NOTE:
Do not bend the cable sharply at the base of either the sensing unit or sensor ECU in the final mounting position
Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Unclip [2x]
- Nitrogen Oxides Sensor (2) - Remove
- Remove the nitrogen oxides sensor assembly from the vehicle.
- Radiator Surge Tank - Position aside - Radiator Surge Tank Replacement
Range Selector Lever Cable (1) @ Range Selector Lever Cable Lever - Remove - Use a suitable tool.
- Range Selector Lever Cable @ Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket - Remove
Push (arrows) the lashes (2) to release the range selector lever cable.
- Heater Inlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
- Heater Outlet Hose @ Heater Core - Disconnect - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
Disconnect the power brake booster vacuum pipe (2) from the power brake booster inlet hose fitting (1). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Fuel Return Front Pipe (2) @ Fuel Return Pipe (4) - Disconnect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Fuel Feed Front Pipe (1) @ Fuel Feed Pipe (2) - Disconnect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Close the open connectors with suitable closure plugs.
Secure the radiator assembly (2) to the front end upper tie bar, use 2 lashing straps (1).
- Install the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture
- Raise the vehicle.
Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Bolt (2) - Remove
- Air Conditioning Compressor Hose (1) @ Air Conditioning Compressor - Remove
- Seal Ring (3, 4) - Remove and DISCARD
Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Retainer Spring (1) - Unlock
- Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose (2) @ Charge Air Cooler (3) - Disconnect
Electrical Connector (1) @ Charge Air Temperature Sensor (2) - Disconnect
- Radiator Inlet Hose @ Radiator - Disconnect - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe @ Radiator - Disconnect - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe @ Radiator - Disconnect - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
- Radiator Outlet Hose @ Radiator - Disconnect - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (1.6L Diesel LH7)
- Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose @ Charge Air Cooler - Disconnect - Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose Replacement
- Stabilizer Shaft Link @ Stabilizer Shaft - Disconnect [2x] - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
- Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod @ Steering Knuckle - Disconnect [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
- Lower Control Arm @ Steering Knuckle - Disconnect [2x] - Lower Control Arm Replacement
- Front Wheel Drive Shaft @ Front Wheel Hub - Remove [2x] - Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
Exhaust Muffler Insulator Nut (1) - Remove [2x]
Transmission Mount Strut Bolt (1) @ Transmission Mount Strut (2) - Remove and DISCARD
Support the drivetrain and front suspension cradle (1) with a suitable hydraulic jack (2).
- NOTE:
Simplified graphic.
Remove and DISCARD the 2 frame front bolts (3).
- Remove and DISCARD the 4 rear frame bolts (1).
- Remove and DISCARD the 2 center frame bolts (2).
- Lower the drivetrain and front suspension cradle as far as necessary.
- Steering Gear Heat Shield - Remove - Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement
Electrical Connector (1) @ Power Steering Assist Motor (2) - Disconnect [2x]
- Lower the suspension frame.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
- Position blocks of wood below the oil pan and transmission to stabilize the powertrain on the support table.
- With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.
Engine Mount Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
Transmission Mount Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [4x]
- Remove the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture
- Slowly and carefully raise the vehicle, ensure the powertrain assembly is free from wiring, hoses and other engine compartment components.
- Lower carefully the powertrain assembly from the vehicle.
Secure the exhaust particulate sensor control module from falling down in order to prevent a defect on the control module.
Do not bend the cable sharply at the base of either the sensing unit or sensor ECU in the final mounting position.
A second technician is required.
