Removal Procedure
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief
Fuel Feed Pipe (1) @ Engine - Disconnect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)
Intake Manifold Cover(3) - Remove - Intake Manifold Cover Replacement
- Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose Replacement - Remove
- Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Replacement - Remove
- Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement - Remove
- Engine Control Module Replacement - Remove
- Battery Tray Replacement - Remove
- Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement - Remove
Remove the engine wiring harness (1) from the fuse block.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.(2)
- Ground Nut(3) - Remove
- Disconnect the electrical connector.(4)
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer(5) - Remove[3x]
- Reposition the engine wiring harness (6) to top of engine as necessary.
- Remove and reposition remaining wiring harness and hose connections as needed.

Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose Clip(2) - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe(1)@Radiator Assembly Disconnect
Air Conditioning Condenser Hose Nut(3) - Remove
Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose Clip(2) - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe(1)@Radiator Assembly Disconnect
- Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (AWD)Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (FWD) - Remove
- Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side - Remove
- Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement - Remove
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (N40)Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (NJ1) @Steering Gear - Disconnect
- NOTE:
Right side shown, left side is similar.
Remove left and right side the stabilizer link nuts (1) then disconnect the links at the stabilizer. Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
- NOTE:
Right side shown, left side is similar.
Remove the left and right side tie rod nuts (1), then disconnect the tie rods (2) from the steering knuckles. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube(1)@Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Position a suitable engine table or equivalent under the cradle to support the cradle and powertrain.
- NOTE:
ONLY the fasteners (1) should be removed and DISCARDED
Engine Mount Fastener(2)Remove and DISCARD[3x] - Engine Mount Replacement
- NOTE:
ONLY the fasteners (1) should be removed and DISCARDED
Transmission Mount Fastener(1)Remove and DISCARD[4x] - Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side
- NOTE:
Use a suitable device to hold the cradle while removing the fasteners.
NOTE:Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.
Remove bolts necessary to remove the cradle (1) (2) and (3). Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Long Cradle)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Short Cradle)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Long Cradle - V5O)
- Disconnect electrical connections and reposition harnesses as needed.
- Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
- Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement
- Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
