Installation Procedure

  1. Install the transmission to the engine. Transmission Replacement
  2. Position the powertrain and support table under the vehicle.
  3. Raise the powertrain into position under the vehicle.
  4. With the table positioned, if required, lower the vehicle over the powertrain.

    NOTE:

    Install the previously removed body to frame bolts to secure the frame and powertrain.

    Install bolts (1) (2) and frame (3). Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Long Cradle)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Short Cradle)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Long Cradle - V5O)

  6. GM3943227

    Transmission Mount Fastener(1) Install a NEW bolt.[4x] - Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side

  7. GM4122136

    Engine Mount Fastener(2) Install a NEW bolt.[3x] - Engine Mount Replacement 

  8. Remove the suitable engine table or equivalent from under the powertrain and cradle.
  9. Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (AWD)Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (FWD) - Install
  10. Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side - Install
  11. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (N40)Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (NJ1) @Steering Gear - Connect

    Right side shown, left side is similar.

    Connect the stabilizer links (2) and install nuts (1). Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement

    Install the tie rod ends (2) then install nuts (1). Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement

    Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe(1)@Radiator Assembly Connect

  16. Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose Clip(2) - Install

    Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe(1)@Radiator Assembly Connect

  18. Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose Clip(2) - Install

  22. Heater Water Auxiliary Pump Inlet Hose Replacement (LE2) - Install

  24. Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose Replacement - Install

  26. Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LUV)Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (2H0)Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LE2) - Install

    Properly position the engine wiring harness (6).

  28. Install the engine wiring harness (1) into the fuse block.
  29. Connect the electrical connector.(2)
    30. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  30. Ground Nut(3) Install and tighten 10 N.m (89 lb in)
  31. Connect the electrical connector.(4)
  32. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer(5) Install[3x]
  33. Reposition and connect remaining wiring harness and hose connections as needed.
  34. Battery Tray Replacement - Install
  35. Engine Control Module Replacement - Install
  36. Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement (LE2)Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement (LUV) - Install
  37. Power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose Replacement (LUV)Power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose Replacement (LE2)Power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose Replacement (2H0) - Install
  38. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement - Install
  39. GM4111054

    Fuel Feed Pipe (1) @ Engine - Connect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  40. Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Replacement - Remove
  41. Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LUV)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (2H0)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LE2) - Install
  42. Front Compartment Front Center Insulator Replacement - Install
  43. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Transmission Protector Replacement - Install
  44. Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Hose Replacement - Install
  45. GM4092407

    Intake Manifold Cover(3) - Install - Intake Manifold Cover Replacement 

  46. Recharge the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)
  47. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Cooling System Draining and Filling
    48. NOTE:

    Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.

  48. If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the engine prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing 
  49. If the engine has not been replaced or overhauled, check and correct engine oil level as needed. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
