Transmission Assembly: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: The hybrid system includes a high voltage circuit. Mishandling could cause accidents such as electric shock or leak. Always check "WARNING (HYBRID SYSTEM)" and perform the proper operation. Ref. to PRECAUTION/WARNING>Warning (HYBRID SYSTEM) .
  1. Replace the differential side retainer oil seal with a new part. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>DIFFERENTIAL SIDE RETAINER OIL SEAL>REPLACEMENT .
  2. Install the bracket - power cable.

    Tightening torque: 

    7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

  3. Install the transmission case cover (upper) and transmission case cover (lower).

    Tightening torque: 

    8 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.9 ft-lb)

  4. Attach the bracket.

    Tightening torque: 

    8 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.9 ft-lb)

  5. Install the rear cushion rubber.

    Tightening torque: 

    40 N.m (4.1 kgf-m, 29.5 ft-lb)

  6. Place the transmission body on the transmission jack.
    CAUTION: Make sure that the support plates of transmission jack do not touch the oil pan.
    NOTE: Place wooden block or similar items at the transmission rear to adjust the height.
  7. Install the transmission body.
    NOTE:
    • Adjust the position and angle of the transmission jack and engine body if necessary.
    • Temporarily install the bolts and nuts which hold lower side of the transmission.

  8. Connect the power cable.
    WARNING: Be sure to wear insulated gloves.
    1. Install the power cable clamp.

    2. Connect the power cable terminal (MG1).
      CAUTION:
      • Do not apply excessive force to the power cable.
      • Because there is the risk of damaging the threads, be sure to work by hand when connecting the terminals.
      • First partially tighten all of the terminal bolts before fully tightening them.
      1. Connect the power cable terminal (MG1) and install the bolts.
        WARNING: Be sure to use insulated tools.

        Tightening torque: 

        7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

      2. Install the part cover - power connector.

      3. Install the guard - power cable MG1.

        Tightening torque: 

        7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

    3. Connect the power cable terminal (MG2).
      CAUTION:
      • Do not apply excessive force to the power cable.
      • Because there is the risk of damaging the threads, be sure to work by hand when connecting the terminals.
      • First partially tighten all of the terminal bolts before fully tightening them.
      1. Connect the power cable terminal (MG2) and install the bolts.
        WARNING: Be sure to use insulated tools.

        Tightening torque: 

        7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

      2. Install the part cover - power connector.

      3. Install the guard - power cable MG2.

        Tightening torque: 

        7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

      4. Install the harness clip.

    4. Install the guard - power cable cover.

      Tightening torque: 

      7 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 5.2 ft-lb)

  9. Install the transmission rear crossmember.

    Tightening torque: 

    T1: 35 N.m (3.6 kgf-m, 25.8 ft-lb)

    T2: 70 N.m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb)

  10. Install the inhibitor harness onto the transmission rear crossmember, and connect the inhibitor harness connector.

  11. Remove the transmission jack.
  12. Tighten the bolts and nuts which hold lower side of the transmission.

    Tightening torque: 

    50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)

  13. Install the floor under protector LH. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>FLOOR UNDER PROTECTOR>INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the exhaust hanger bracket.

    Tightening torque: 

    30 N.m (3.1 kgf-m, 22.1 ft-lb)

  15. Connect the select cable to the transmission main body.
    CAUTION: Do not apply excessive load while holding the part (a).

    Tightening torque: 

    25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb)

  16. Install the inhibitor cover.

    Tightening torque: 

    7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

  17. Install the bolts which hold upper side of transmission.

    Tightening torque: 

    50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)

  18. Install a new CVTF CVT inlet hose and a new CVTF CVT outlet hose.
  19. Install the front drive shaft. Ref. to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>INSTALLATION .
  20. Install the propeller shaft. Ref. to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>PROPELLER SHAFT>INSTALLATION .
  21. Remove ST (ENGINE SUPPORT BRACKET and ENGINE SUPPORT).
  22. Install the pitching stopper. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .
  23. Connect the ground cord.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.3 N.m (3.3 kgf-m, 23.8 ft-lb)

  24. Connect the ground cable.

    Tightening torque: 

    8 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.9 ft-lb)

  25. Connect the engine ground.

    Tightening torque: 

    19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 14.0 ft-lb)

  26. Install the engine wiring harness stay.

    Tightening torque: 

    19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 14.0 ft-lb)

  27. Connect the inhibitor harness connector.
  28. Install the engine rear hanger.

    Tightening torque: 

    21 N.m (2.1 kgf-m, 15.5 ft-lb)

  29. Install the air intake boot. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>AIR INTAKE BOOT>INSTALLATION .
  30. Install the service disconnect plug. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>SERVICE PLUG>INSTALLATION .
  31. Shift the select lever to "P range".
  32. Connect the battery ground terminal. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  33. Apply the parking brake.
  34. Fill differential gear oil. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL>REPLACEMENT .
  35. Fill with ATF. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID>REPLACEMENT .
  36. When the transmission body was replaced, check the inhibitor switch position, adjust the N range position, and use the Subaru Select Monitor to perform the rear differential inspection mode.
  37. Perform the road test to make sure there is no fault. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>ROAD TEST .
