Automatic Transmission Fluid: Replacement

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION: Vehicle components are extremely hot immediately after driving. Be wary of receiving burns from heated parts.
NOTE: Unless the conditions are severe, it is not necessary to change the ATF.
  1. Remove the overflow plug (A).
  2. Remove the drain plug (B) to drain ATF.

  3. Check the ATF condition.
    NOTE: Determine the condition inside the transmission by inspecting the drained ATF.
    ATF condition Trouble and possible cause Corrective action
    Metal particles. Excessive wear of the internal of the transmission body. Replace ATF and check if the transmission body operates correctly.
    Thick and varnish-form fluid. Burnt clutches. Replace ATF and check if the transmission body operates correctly.
    The fluid is cloudy. Water is mixed in the fluid. Replace the transmission body.
  4. Install the drain plug using a new gasket.

    Tightening torque: 

    31 N.m (3.2 kgf-m, 22.9 ft-lb)

  5. Add the specified ATF until it reaches the bottom of the overflow plug hole.
    CAUTION: Always use specified ATF. ATF other than specified ATF will cause malfunction.

    ATF: 

    Ref. to RECOMMENDED MATERIALS .

  6. Temporarily install the overflow plug.
  7. Check the ATF level. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID>INSPECTION .
