Front Drive Shaft: Installation
NOTE:
When the front drive shaft is removed using the ST, install the front disc rotor. Ref. to BRAKE>FRONT DISC ROTOR>INSTALLATION
.
- Before installation, check the front drive shaft. Ref. to DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM>FRONT DRIVE SHAFT>INSPECTION .
- Replace the differential side retainer oil seal with a new part.
- MT model: Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (6MT)>DIFFERENTIAL SIDE RETAINER OIL SEAL>REPLACEMENT .
- CVT (TR580) model: Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>DIFFERENTIAL SIDE RETAINER OIL SEAL>REPLACEMENT .
- CVT (TH2A) model: Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>DIFFERENTIAL SIDE RETAINER OIL SEAL>REPLACEMENT .
CAUTION:- After pulling out the front drive shaft, be sure to replace with a new oil seal.
- Insert the front drive shaft into the hub spline, and pull it into the specified position.CAUTION:
- Do not hammer the front drive shaft when installing it.
- Be careful not to damage the spline portion of the front drive shaft.
- Be careful not to damage the magnetic encoder.
- Tighten the axle nut temporarily.CAUTION: Be sure to use a new axle nut.
- Using the ST, install the front drive shaft to the transmission.
Preparation tool:
ST: OIL SEAL PROTECTOR (28399SA010)
- Install the front axle housing to the front arm assembly.
- Impreza model
Install the flange nut on the bottom of the ball joint.
CAUTION: Use a new flange nut.Tightening torque:
100 N.m (10.2 kgf-m, 73.8 ft-lb)
- Crosstrek model
Install the ball joint into the front axle housing.
CAUTION:- Be careful not to damage the boot of the ball joint.
- Before tightening, make sure the bottom surface of front axle housing and stepped section of ball joint COMPL are in contact.
Tightening torque:
50 N.m (5.10 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)
- Impreza model
- Install the stabilizer link. (Impreza model)CAUTION: Use a new flange nut.
Tightening torque:
60 N.m (6.1 kgf-m, 44.3 ft-lb)
- Install the brake hose bracket.
Tightening torque:
33 N.m (3.4 kgf-m, 24.3 ft-lb)
- Install the front ABS wheel speed sensor and harness bracket.CAUTION: During the installation, make sure that the marking of ABS wheel speed sensor harness does not twist.
Tightening torque:
7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)
- Install the crossmember support - rear.
Tightening torque:
70 N.m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb)
- While depressing the brake pedal, tighten the axle nut.CAUTION: Do not load the front axle before tightening the axle nut. Doing so may damage the front hub unit bearing.
Tightening torque:
220 N.m (22.4 kgf-m, 162.3 ft-lb)
- Crimp the axle nut.
- Install the front wheels.
Tightening torque:
120 N.m (12.2 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)
- Lower the vehicle.
- Replace the self-locking nut of the strut mount connecting area, and tighten it using the ST. (Impreza model)CAUTION:
- Replace the self-locking nut in the state where the wheels are in full contact with the ground.
- Be sure to use a new self-locking nut.
Preparation tool:
ST: STRUT MOUNT SOCKET (20399AG000)
Tightening torque:
55 N.m (5.6 kgf-m, 40.6 ft-lb)
- Install the dust seal - front strut that protects the strut mount connecting area. (Impreza model)
- Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. Ref. to FRONT SUSPENSION>WHEEL ALIGNMENT>INSPECTION
. Ref. to FRONT SUSPENSION>WHEEL ALIGNMENT>ADJUSTMENT
.CAUTION: When the wheel alignment has been adjusted, perform the following adjustment.
- Lane keep assist learning value clear (model with EyeSight)
- Except for Crosstrek hybrid model: Ref. to EYESIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR HEV)>CLEAR ACTIVE LANE KEEP SYSTEM LEARNING VALUE>OPERATION .
- Crosstrek hybrid model: Ref. to EYESIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS) (HEV)>CLEAR ACTIVE LANE KEEP SYSTEM LEARNING VALUE>OPERATION .
- VDC sensor midpoint setting mode:
- Lane keep assist learning value clear (model with EyeSight)
- Perform reinitialization of the auto headlight beam leveler system. (MT model) Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>PROCEDURE .
