Remove/install left cylinder head - AR01.30-P-5770EL

REMOVINGREMOVING Remove/install     
1 Perform enable for the high voltage on-board electrical system MODEL 212.095/195 AR54.10-P-1150EH
2 Remove bulkhead (78) MODEL 212.095/195
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Pay attention to correct seating of bulkhead (78).

3 Remove guide tube of oil dipstick   AR18.40-P-3510EL
4 Remove cylinder head cover   AR01.20-P-5013EEL 
5.1 Remove exhaust manifold with CAT ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212, 218 with CODE 920 (Direct petrol injection with stratified charging) AR14.10-P-4095EL
5.2 Remove exhaust manifold ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212, 218  
    without CODE 920 (Direct petrol injection with stratified charging) AR14.10-P-3006EHV
6 Drain coolant   AR20.00-P-1142EL
NOTES Notes on coolant   AH20.00-N-2080-01A
7 Remove coolant thermostat   AR20.10-P-2460EL
8 Remove coolant pipe (6) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new coolant pipe (6).  
9 Unclip electrical lines for knock sensors on heating system shutoff valve (Y16/2)    
10 Detach coolant hose (4) for exhaust gas recirculation positioner and coolant hose to the heater cooler at heating system shutoff valve (Y16/2)   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
    SPECIAL TOOL Hose clamp pliers Fig 8
11 Remove heating system shutoff valve (Y16/2) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heater feed to cylinder head *BA20.10-P-1006-01AA 
12 Pull coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) out of cylinder head (1l) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal.  
13 Remove chain tensioner   AR05.10-P-7800EL
14 Pull out sliding rail bolts (5) out of cylinder head (1l) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to slide rail pins (5) before inserting them.

15 Remove camshafts (1A, 1E) IMPORTANT The camshaft (1A, 1E) and camshaft positioner must be removed together. AR05.20-P-6992EL
16 Loosen cylinder head bolts (1) in stages in reverse order of tightening procedure and remove them   AR01.30-P-5800-01MMA
NOTES Only loosen cylinder head bolts (1s) when engine has cooled off.
The cylinder head (1l) can be deformed by stresses otherwise.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cylinder head bolts (1s).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, cylinder head to crankcase *BA01.30-P-1001-01W 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, cylinder head to timing case cover *BA01.30-P-1002-01W 
17 Remove cylinder head (1l) from crankcase (2)    
IMPORTANT Notes on sealant path for cylinder crankcase   AH01.40-P-1000-08MM
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Cylinder head changed   BT01.30-P-0004-01MM
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to cylinder crankcase (2).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Fit new cylinder head gasket onto the crankcase (2). Pay attention to pilot bushing for fixing the cylinder head (1).

CLEANING Clean     
18 Clean sealing surfaces at cylinder head (1l) and at cylinder crankcase (2)   AR01.00-P-0050-01A
NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.
 
Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
Loctite 7063 cleaning spray (150 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
19 Blow out threaded holes for cylinder head bolts (1s) in crankcase (2) with compressed air, and clean off the engine oil and the coolant    
20 Check sealing surfaces on cylinder head (1l) and crankcase (2) for cracks and unevenness NOTES The cylinder head (1l) and crankcase (2) must not be reworked (surface grinding).
The left cylinder head (1l) or the cylinder crankcase (2) may be destroyed otherwise due to exceeding the machining tolerances.
 
21 Install in the reverse order    
22 Change engine oil and oil filter element    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-0101CWZ
INSPECT Check     
24 Check basic position of the camshafts (1A, 1E)   AR05.20-P-6020EL
25 Check engine cooling system for leaktightness   AR20.00-P-1010EL
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
26 Carry out an engine test run and check engine and fuel system for leaktightness
