DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A

Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.    
2 Shift the transmission (1) into neutral position.    
3 Release parking brake.    
4 Disconnect ground line from battery. IMPORTANT The 48 V on-board electrical system is automatically disconnected from power supply at the latest 10 s after disconnecting the ground line from the 12 V on-board electrical system battery. AR54.10-P-0051S
5 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-1006A
6 Drain coolant for low-temperature coolant circuit.   AR20.00-P-1144SC
7 Remove bracket (6).    
8 Remove coolant lines of drive unit from drive unit, from oil cooler and from front axle carrier at rear.   AR08.50-P-0244S
9 Remove propeller shaft.   AR41.10-P-0050S
10 Remove electrical wiring harness (3) from heat shield (2) and remove heat shield (2).   AR27.40-P-0700-01S 
11 Release and disconnect electrical connector of transmission (1).    
12 Release and disconnect electrical connector (4) and fasten electrical wiring harness (3) outside of working area.    
13 Remove left and right catalytic converter from exhaust gas turbochargers and brackets and expose. Right catalytic converter AR49.20-P-0102S
    Left catalytic converter
IMPORTANT Expose catalytic converters far enough so that they can be turned outwards in the transmission tunnel.

14 Detach brackets (9) from transmission (1).    
15 Detach front axle differential propeller shaft from front axle differential. IMPORTANT Remove front axle differential propeller shaft together with transmission (1). AR41.10-P-0070SC
16 Remove nuts (5) of 48 V electrical wiring harness from underbody.    
17 Remove the bolt (10).    
18 Remove screws (11).    
19 Remove holder (20) from crankcase.    
20 Remove screws (12).    
21 Remove nuts (7) and remove 48 V electrical wiring harness from transmission (1) and underbody.    
22 Remove cover (8).    
23 Remove rotor (13) from drive plate (16). NOTES Do not use an impact wrench or compressed air tool to remove the bolts.
Otherwise, the threaded union (17) in the drive plate (16) will be damaged as a consequence.

24 Support transmission (1) with major-assembly support and mounting plate and strap down securely.

25 Remove transmission mount from underbody. NOTES Never use an impact wrench or compressed-air tool to remove the screws.
Otherwise the consequence is damage to the thread.

26 Lower transmission (1) until the screws (18) can be removed.

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
27 Prop up engine at front between front axle carrier and engine using wooden wedge.    
28 Remove bracket (19) from crankcase.    
29 Remove screws (18).    
30 Turn catalytic converters in transmission tunnel outwards and remove transmission (1).

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
31 Remove corrosion from crankshaft. IMPORTANT Use an emery cloth to remove corrosion.  
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
32 Check threaded unions (17) in drive plate (16). If problems are found,

Install new drive plate (16).

33 Remove seal (15) between transmission (1) and timing case cover.    
34 Remove pilot bushing (14).   AR08.10-P-0026-01EWO

INSTALLING Install     
35 Install pilot bushing (14). IMPORTANT Replace pilot bushing (14).
IMPORTANT To make it easier to mount the transmission (1), grease the pilot bushing (14) at the plastic.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, pilot bushing to rotor *BA27.10-P-1034-04H

36 Position seal (15) between transmission (1) and timing case cover. IMPORTANT Replace seal (15).  
37 Turn catalytic converters in transmission tunnel outwards and install transmission (1).

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate IMPORTANT While doing so, align the bores of the rotor (13) with the threaded unions (17) in the drive plate (16). WS26.00-P-0415B
38 Screw in bolts (18). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/nut, transmission to engine *BA27.10-P-1001-04H 
39 Attach bracket (19) to crankcase. TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
40 Remove wooden wedge at front between front axle carrier and engine.    
41 Lift transmission (1) and attach transmission mount to underbody. NOTES Never use an impact wrench or compressed-air tool to screw in the screws.
Otherwise the consequence is damage to the thread.

42 Unfasten strapping from transmission (1) and lower major-assembly support and mounting plate.

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
43 Attach rotor (13) to drive plate (16). NOTES Do not use an impact wrench/driver or compressed air tool to screw in the bolts. Otherwise, the threaded union (17) in the drive plate (16) will be damaged as a consequence. AR08.10-P-0023-01EWO
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, torque converter/rotor to drive plate/star-shaped drive plate *BA27.20-P-1001-01D 
    SPECIAL TOOL Ring wrench Fig 2
44 Install cover (8).    
45 Position 48 V electrical wiring harness at transmission (1) and underbody and attach nuts (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, 48 V subharness to refrigerant compressor/electric motor/firewall *BA15.18-P-1004-03D 
46 Screw in screws (12). TORQUE SPECIFICATION 48 V subharness to oil pan/engine carrier/crankcase *BA15.18-P-1001-03D 
47 Attach holder (20) to crankcase. TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
48 Screw in screws (11). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, cable duct to transmission bell housing *BA27.10-P-1029-04H 
49 Screw in screw (10). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, ground line to drive unit housing *BA15.18-P-1006-03D 
50 Attach nuts (5) of 48 V electrical wiring harness to underbody. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, 48 V subharness to body *BA15.18-P-1005-03D 
51 Attach front axle differential propeller shaft at front axle differential.   AR41.10-P-0070SC
52 Attach brackets (9) to transmission (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, Exhaust system bracket to transmission *BA49.10-P-1004-02Y 
53 Attach left and right catalytic converters to exhaust gas turbochargers and brackets. Right catalytic converter AR49.20-P-0102S
    Left catalytic converter AR49.20-P-0101S
54 Release attachment on electrical wiring harness (3) then connect and lock electrical connector (4).    
55 Connect and lock electrical connector of transmission (1).    
56 Install heat shield (2) and attach electrical wiring harness (3) to heat shield (2).   AR27.40-P-0700-01S 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, heat shield to transmission *BA27.10-P-1033-04H 
57 Install propeller shaft.   AR41.10-P-0050S
58 Attach coolant lines of drive unit to drive unit, to oil cooler and to front axle carrier at rear.   AR08.50-P-0244S
59 Install bracket (6).    
60 Add coolant for low-temperature coolant circuit. IMPORTANT Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test. AR20.00-P-1144SC
61 Connect ground line to battery.   AR54.10-P-0051S
62 Check and correct transmission oil level.   AR27.00-P-0270EWN 
63 Read out and delete fault memory.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
64 Perform transmission adaptation with vehicle diagnosis system. After replacement or repair of transmission (1).

WARNING Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
65 Perform engine test run and check transmission (1) for leak tightness and proper operation.    
66 Install lower engine compartment paneling.   AR61.20-P-1105S
67 Lower and release vehicle with vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-1006A
