| Remove | |||
| 1 | Put transmission into neutral position. | ||
| 2 | Release parking brake. | ||
| 3 | Remove oil cooler. | Model 223 with engine 176 with transmission 725.1 | AR27.55-P-1000SC |
| 4 | Remove holder (2). | ||
| 5 | Remove heat shield from transmission. | AR27.40-P-0700-01S | |
| 6 | Release and disconnect electrical connection (3). | ||
| 7 | Release and disconnect electrical connector (4) and position electrical wiring harness outside the working area. | ||
| 8 | Detach right catalytic converter from exhaust gas turbocharger, center exhaust system and brackets and expose. | AR49.20-P-0102S | |
| 9 | Remove the heat shield (5). | ||
| 10 | Remove bracket (6). | ||
| 11 | Operate service brake and remove screws (7). | Do not counterhold the propeller shaft (1) at the universal joint. The needle roller bearings and seals of the propeller shaft (1) will otherwise be damaged. |

| 12 | Turn right catalytic converter outwards in transmission tunnel and detach propeller shaft (1) from front axle differential. | ||
| 13 | Remove propeller shaft (1) together with transfer case. | Model 223 with engine 176 with transmission 725.1 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) |

| 14 | Remove propeller shaft (1) from transfer case. | ||
| 15 | Check sealing bellows (8) for damage. | If sealing bellows (8) is damaged, ↓ replace sealing bellows (8). |

| 17 | Attach propeller shaft (1) to transfer case. | ||
| 18 | Install propeller shaft (1) together with transfer case. | Model 223 with engine 176 with transmission 725.1 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) |

| 19 | Turn right catalytic converter outwards in transmission tunnel and position propeller shaft (1) on front axle differential. | ||
| 20 | Operate service brake and screw in screws (7). | Do not counterhold the propeller shaft (1) at the universal joint. The needle roller bearings and seals of the propeller shaft (1) will otherwise be damaged. Replace the bolts (7). |
