	Remove/install
1	Remove engine from front axle carrier.		AR01.10-P-2510SVZ

3	Mount the engine on the assembly stand with the engine crane.

4	Remove front cap from cylinder head (8).		AR01.30-P-5711SVZ
5	Remove charge-air distributor.		AR09.41-P-8683SVZ
6	Remove left exhaust gas turbocharger with the left exhaust manifold.		AR09.40-P-6037SVZ
7	Place the piston of cylinder 1 at a 30° CKA (crank angle) after top dead center (for ignition TDC).	Do not turn engine opposite to the direction of engine rotation. The timing chain can skip otherwise and engine damage can occur. Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until marking for a 30° crank angle on the belt pulley/vibration damper (1) coincides with marking on the timing case cover (arrow). 9	Remove retaining ring (2) on camshaft sprocket (5) and remove centrifuge (3).		AR01.20-P-2100SVZ

11	Place match marks on camshaft sprocket (5) and timing chain.
12	Remove camshaft sprocket (5) together with timing chain.	Rotate the camshaft (7) such that the holding device (9) can be mounted free of tension on the cylinder head (8). Retaining device	Fig 2
13	Unscrew screws (11) from holder (10).

16	Loosen and remove the cylinder head bolts (14, 15) in stages according to the loosening procedure.	Tightening specification	AR01.30-P-5800-07M
		Loosening procedure Observe tightening specifications for cylinder head bolts (14, 15). Observe the different screw lengths of the cylinder head bolts (14, 15). Lubricate cylinder head bolts (14, 15) at threads and bolt head contact surfaces.	AR01.30-P-5800-09M

17	Remove cylinder head (8).	Install new cylinder head gasket (16). Pay attention to pilot bushing for holding the cylinder head (8) in place.
	Clean
18	Clean threaded holes as well as sealing surfaces on cylinder head (8) and crankcase.	Do not use sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper. Otherwise, damage to the sealing surfaces and then engine and environmental damage may result. Mechanically processing or cleaning the sealing surfaces, spot grinding with abrasive paper or other abrasive materials to remove seal residue is not permitted. Even the smallest amounts of aluminum oxide particles, grinding particles or wear debris entering the oil reservoir, the bearing points or the combustion chambers will cause damage and thus result in damage to the engine/major assemblies. The sealing surfaces must feel even after treatment. The sealing surfaces need not be metallic bright; thin layers of firmly adhering silicone sealant may remain. 21	Check sealing surfaces between crankcase and cylinder head (8) for cracks, shrink holes, and flatness. Notes on application of flange sealants to seal major assemblies	Do not rework the cylinder head (8) or crankcase (surface grinding). The cylinder head (8)/crankcase may otherwise be destroyed because the machining tolerances are exceeded. Sealing surfaces between crankcase and cylinder head (8) are provided with an 0.8 mm-thick silicone layer during series production.
