DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Print out "Trailer hitch certificate" document. For countries in Europe which do not belong to the EU.
IMPORTANT The "Trailer hitch certificate" document must be present at the installation acceptance.

2 Print out the detailed installation instructions and hand them over to the customer. For do-it-yourself installation of trailer hitch by the customer.  
3 Disconnect ground line from battery.

4 Discharge air conditioning system. Model 253.3/9 with engine 654

5.1 Remove right side load compartment trim. Model 253.3/9 except code ME05 (Hybrid drive 85 kW-94 kW variant (incl. plug-in))

5.2 Remove left and right side load compartment trim. Model 253.3/9 with code ME05 (Hybrid drive 85 kW-94 kW variant (incl. plug-in))

6 Remove trim on right D-pillar.

7 Loosen roof lining in rear area.

8 Remove upper liftgate trim.

9 Remove spare wheel well trim.    
10 Remove rear bumper (70).

11 Remove rear switch module lower sensor (A87/2) and rear switch module upper sensor from rear bumper (70).

12 Unfasten rubber retainers on rear muffler. Antifriction paste, rubber parts 2.5 kg, DBL 6867.00 *BR00.45-Z-1002-06A 
13 Remove crossmember (6). IMPORTANT The crossmember (6) is no longer required.  
14 In the XENTRY Portal Parts Information in DG 99, check if the cooler unit installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for the retrofitting of the trailer hitch. If cooler unit is incompatible,

remove the radiator unit.

16 In the XENTRY Portal Parts Information in DG 99, check if the rear engine compartment lining installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch. If the rear engine compartment lining is incompatible

Remove engine compartment lining at rear.

17 Cut through radiator shutters wiring harness branch-off line at a distance of approx. 2 cm to the black 4-pin coupling. Model 253.3/9 with code 2U1 (Radiator shutters)  
18 Insulate line ends of radiator shutters wiring harness branch-off line with solder terminal sleeves and strap down. Model 253.3/9 with code 2U1 (Radiator shutters)  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT Note color coding of the lines. Differently colored lines must be insulated separately. AR00.19-P-0100A
19 Remove battery. Model 253.313/315/316/319/323/353/380/913/914/915/916/919/923/953/980/981/984
When replacing the fan unit wiring harness.

22 In the XENTRY Portal Parts Information in DG 99, check if the fuse and relay module installed in the rear passenger compartment in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch. If rear passenger compartment fuse and relay module is incompatible,

replace rear passenger compartment fuse and relay module.

23 Remove front prefuse box. Model 253.319/919

34 Modify lower bumper section. Model 253.3/9 with code 772 (AMG styling - front spoiler, longitudinal members)  
35 Install rear switch module upper sensor on rear bumper (70). Model 253.3/9 with code P17 (KEYLESS-GO package)

36 Install rear bumper (70).

37 Mount reinforcement (70.3) onto rear bumper (70) and fix in place using expansion rivet (70.4) and screws (70.5).    
38 Install rear switch module lower sensor (A87/2) on rear bumper (70). Model 253.3 with code P17 (KEYLESS-GO Package)

39 Install remaining parts. IMPORTANT Connect tailgate trailer hitch release switch.  
  Update Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc)     
40 Deregister special equipment in vehicle data card online. Model 253.3/9 with code 2U1 (Radiator shutters)

41 Enter special equipment into online vehicle data card. IMPORTANTCode 550 (Trailer hitch)   
42 Attach "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-0010LWN" note under field organization texts to DG 07, DG 31, DG 41, DG 50, DG 52, DG 54 and DG 88.    
43 Connect diagnostic system and select vehicle using vehicle identification number (VIN).

44 Perform variant coding using the software calibration number (SCN). IMPORTANT The coding sequence must be observed at all times.
