Connection scheme
Routing diagram
- Attach black, 24-pin connector (20.1) of the trailer hitch wiring harness (20) to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
The black, 24-pin connector (20.1) was routed into the vehicle interior compartment during installation of the trailer hitch cross member.
- Connect blue 6-pin coupling of trailer hitch wiring harness (20) to blue 6-pin contact socket of control unit wiring harness (22).
This makes the electrical connection for the vehicle interior/trailer hitch (X58/33).
- Fasten electrical connector for vehicle interior/trailer hitch (X58/33) to holder using retaining clip.
- Connect black 6-pin coupling (22.1) to trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
- Connect black 10-pin connector (22.2) to trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
- Connect white, 10-pin coupling (22.3) to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
- Route control unit wiring harness (22) along the existing lines to the right rear wheel well and fasten with cable ties.
- Fit brown fuse holder (22.5) of wiring harness for control unit (22) into "S14" slot on rear fuse and relay module (K40/5).
Slot "S14" on the rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) is labeled.
- Check fuse assignment on brown fuse holder (22.5), correct if necessary.
Fuse assignment:
Contact cavity 1 = 30A
Contact cavity 2 = 20A
Contact cavity 3 = 30A
Contact cavity 4 = 30A
Contact cavity 5 = 20A
- Route white 4-pin coupling (22.4) to rear SAM control unit (N10/8) and connect.
- Route control unit wiring harness (22) to right D-pillar.
- Route brown/white line (BN/WH) to right rear wheel arch ground point (W3/8) and connect
.
A maximum of 4 round cable lugs may be connected per ground point. In the event of over-assignment, any free ground point should be selected.
- Route brown line (BN) to right D-pillar ground point (W29/9) and connect Model 253.99
.
A maximum of 4 round cable lugs may be connected per ground point. In the event of over-assignment, any free ground point should be selected.
- Release cable duct (23).
- Wrap felt tape around liftgate fully electric trailer hitch switch branch-off line (22.8) of control unit wiring harness (22) in area of roof lining.
- Route liftgate fully electric trailer hitch switch branch-off line (22.8) of control unit wiring harness (22) through cable duct (23) to liftgate.
Use a pull-through device in the area of the cable duct (23).
- Route tailgate fully electric trailer hitch switch branch-off line (22.8) of control unit wiring harness (22) to installation location of trunk/tailgate fully electric trailer hitch switch (S142/2) along vehicle wiring harness.
The black 6-pin coupling (22.9) must protrude far enough to enable the trunk/liftgate fully electric trailer hitch switch (S142/2) to be connected at a later stage.
- Fasten the liftgate full electric trailer hitch switch branch-off line (22.8) to the vehicle wiring harness using cable ties.
- Fasten cable duct (23).
