Removal [09/2019 - 10/2020]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work.

  2. HEIGHT OFFSET

  3. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT MAT SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  4. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    Refer to PRECAUTION [10/2017 - 10/2020]

  5. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

    Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2018 - 10/2020]

  6. PARKING LOCK FORCED RELEASE 

    Refer to OPERATION METHOD [10/2017 - 10/2023]

  7. REMOVE INVERTER COVER ASSEMBLY RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  8. REMOVE RADIATOR COVER PLATE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  9. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  10. REMOVE LOWER RADIATOR AIR DEFLECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  11. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  12. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Lift the V-bank cover sub-assembly to detach the 3 clips in the order shown in the illustration, and remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.

      Areas to place hands when lifting cover
      NOTE:

      If the V-bank cover sub-assembly is lifted rearward or forward and to the right or left at the same time, the V-bank cover sub-assembly may be damaged.

  13. REMOVE SERVICE PLUG GRIP

  14. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  15. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

  16. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  17. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  18. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the 15 screws, 3 clips and No. 1 engine under cover assembly.

    1. Slide the clamp and disconnect the inlet heater water hose from the No. 3 water by-pass hose assembly.

      Do not apply excessive force to the heater water hose outlet.

  44. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE 
    1. Slide the clamp and disconnect the outlet heater water hose from the No. 2 water by-pass pipe assembly.

      NOTE:

      Do not apply excessive force to the heater water hose outlet.

  50. REMOVE NO. 2 RELAY BLOCK COVER 
    1. Detach the 4 claws and remove the No. 2 relay block cover.

  52. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE

    2. Detach the clamp and 2 claws and disconnect the engine wire from the relay block.

  53. DISCONNECT NO. 3 ENGINE ROOM WIRE 

    HINT: 

    After disconnecting the wire harness, secure it with tape or equivalent to keep it out of the way.

    1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and No. 3 engine room wire.

    2. Disconnect the connector and air conditioning wire.
    3. Detach the claw and disconnect the connector holder.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the No. 3 engine room wire.
  54. DISCONNECT NO. 3 ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Remove the bolt, 2 clamps and disconnect the No. 3 engine wire.

    1. Detach the clamp and disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel main tube connector.

    1. Remove the bolt. Then disconnect the absorber and absorber bracket.

    Remove the RH side following the same procedure as for the LH side.

  98. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE LH (for 2WD)

  106. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Install the No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 33 N.m (337 kgf/cm, 24 ft.lbf)

    1. Detach the 2 claws and disconnect the cover from the No. 2 parking lock release cable assembly as shown in the illustration.

  109. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Set the engine on an engine lifter.

      Place Wooden Block or Plate Attachments
      NOTE:
      • Place wooden blocks or plate lift attachments so that the engine is level.
      • With the exception of installing the engine assembly to an engine stand or removing the engine assembly from an engine stand, do not perform any work on the engine while it is suspended, as doing so is dangerous.
      • Never install attachments to the oil pan of the engine assembly or transmission as doing so may deform the oil pan.
    2. Remove the 6 bolts, and then separate the rear engine mounting member.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts shown in the illustration.

    4. Operate the engine lifter, then slowly remove the engine and transmission assembly from the vehicle.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.
      • While lowering the engine from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.
    5. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
      NOTE:

      Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or engine hangers may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.

  110. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Set the engine on an engine lifter.

      NOTE:
      • Place wooden blocks or plate lift attachments so that the engine is level.

    4. Operate the engine lifter, then slowly remove the engine and transmission assembly from the vehicle.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.
      • While lowering the engine from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.
    5. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.
      NOTE:

      Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or engine hangers may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.

  132. INSTALL ENGINE ON ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the engine to an engine stand with bolts.
      NOTE:
      • Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or engine hangers may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.
      • With the exception of installing the engine assembly to an engine stand or removing the engine assembly from an engine stand, do not perform any work on the engine while it is suspended, as doing so is dangerous.
    2. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 engine hangers.
