Replacement [10/2017 - 10/2023]: Procedure

  1. AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL PROHIBITED (w/ Air Suspension) 

    Refer to PRECAUTION [10/2017 - ]

  2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
    1. Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
    2. Front Differential:

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [09/2018 - 09/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [09/2019 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [10/2022 - 10/2023]

      1. Remove the No. 1 engine under cover assembly.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [09/2018 - 09/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [09/2019 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [10/2022 - 10/2023]

      2. Remove the No. 2 engine under cover assembly.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [09/2018 - 09/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [09/2019 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [10/2022 - 10/2023]

      3. Remove the strut bar bracket support sub-assembly.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [09/2018 - 09/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [09/2019 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [10/2022 - 10/2023]

        Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the front differential filler plug (A) and gasket.

      5. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the front differential drain plug (B) and gasket to drain the oil.
      6. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the front differential drain plug (B).

        Torque: 39.2 N.m (400 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

    3. Rear differential:
      1. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

      2. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.

      3. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.

        Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf/cm, 36 ft.lbf) 

  3. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
    1. Front differential:
      1. Add differential oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the differential filler plug opening.

        *a 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.)
        NOTE:
        • Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
        • Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.
        • After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.

        Oil Type

        Toyota genuine differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent

        Standard Differential Oil Capacity

        0.60 to 0.70 liters (0.63 to 0.74 US qts, 0.53 to 0.62 Imp. qts)

      2. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the front differential filler plug.

        Torque: 39.2 N.m (400 kgf/cm, 29 ft.lbf) 

      3. Install the strut bar bracket support sub-assembly.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 138 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 138 [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 137 [10/2020 - 10/2023]

      4. Install the No. 2 engine under cover assembly.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 140 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 140 [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 139 [10/2020 - 10/2023]

      5. Install the No. 1 engine under cover assembly.

        Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 142 [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 142 [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 141 [10/2020 - 10/2023]

    2. Rear differential:
      1. Add differential oil and check that there is oil at the bottom lip of the differential filler plug hole.

        NOTE:
        • Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.
        • After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.

        Oil Type

        Toyota genuine differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent

        Standard Differential Oil Capacity

        for 2WD 0.80 to 0.90 liters (0.85 to 0.95 US qts, 0.70 to 0.79 Imp. qts)
        for AWD 1.30 to 1.40 liters (1.37 to 1.48 US qts, 1.14 to 1.23 Imp. qts)
      2. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.

        Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf/cm, 36 ft.lbf)
