11 00 050 Removing and installing engine: Notes

- Perform all work only on components that have cooled down.

- Conduct all work in the vehicle wearing appropriate personal protective equipment only.

- Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
- Detach battery ground lead from battery.
- For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.

Engine damage due to missing motor oil.
Missing motor oil following replacement of the cylinder head or the engine can lead to damage on the valve train.

- After replacing the cylinder head or the engine, do not start the engine without observing the relevant repair notes.
- It is imperative you observe the REPAIR NOTES for cylinder head or engine replacement.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
After replacing the motor or cylinder head: Reprogram or encode the digital motor electronics (DME) if necessary.
Read out the vehicle I-level and proceed accordingly.
Be absolutely certain to pay attention to PuMA measure 62634754.

Preliminary work:
- Disconnect all battery ground leads
- Refer to SUCTIONING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (R134A) or SUCTIONING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (R1234YF) .
- Refer to REMOVING THE FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Remove rear underbody protection
- Refer to REMOVING REINFORCEMENT PLATE
- Refer to REMOVING EXHAUST SYSTEM
- Refer to REMOVING THE ACOUSTIC COVER
- Uninstall cover for the DME control unit
- Refer to REMOVING INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING
- Refer to REMOVING CLEAN AIR PIPE
- Refer to REMOVING CHARGE AIR LINE
- Refer to REMOVING FAN COWL .
- Refer to REMOVING THE DRIVE BELT FOR ALTERNATOR
- Remove the cover in the left engine compartment
- Remove the right cover in the engine compartment
- Refer to REMOVING TRAILING LINK AT SPRING STRUT DOME
- Remove the sound insulation on the bulkhead upper part center
- Remove ACOUSTIC COVER AT REAR
- Disconnect the connector from the DME control unit and from the power distribution module (PDM)
- Refer to REMOVING THE DME CONTROL UNIT
- Refer to REMOVING THE INTEGRATED POWER SUPPLY MODULE (PDM)

- Remove ignition coils. Refer to REPLACING IGNITION COILS .

- Refer to CONNECT THE COOLANT HOSE TO THE RADIATOR OF THE LOW-TEMPERATURE COOLANT CIRCUIT

- Refer to INSTALLING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION or INSTALLING MANUAL TRANSMISSION
- Refer to FILLING THE LOW-TEMPERATURE COOLING SYSTEM WITH THE VACUUM FILLER DEVICE
- Refer to FILLING THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE COOLING SYSTEM WITH THE VACUUM FILLER DEVICE
- Refer to INSTALLING CATALYTIC CONVERTER
- Install the oxygen sensor monitor. Tightening torque: 50 Nm.
- Install Lambda oxygen sensor. Tightening torque: 50 Nm.
- Refer to INSTALLING FUEL DELIVERY LINE
- Refer to INSTALLING THE IGNITION COILS
- Refer to INSTALLING THE HOLDER FOR THE DIGITAL MOTOR ELECTRONICS-CONTROL UNIT
- Refer to INSTALLING THE INTEGRATED POWER SUPPLY MODULE (PDM)
- Refer to INSTALLING THE DME CONTROL UNIT
- Connect the connector to the DME control unit and the power distribution box (PDM)
- Refer to INSTALLING ACOUSTIC COVER AT REAR
- Install the sound insulation on the bulkhead upper part center
- Install tension strut on spring strut dome. Jointing torque: 56 Nm, angle of rotation: 90° NOTE: Replace screws.
- Install the cover in the engine compartment on the left
- Install the cover in the engine compartment on the right
- Refer to INSTALLING THE DRIVE BELT FOR ALTERNATOR
- Refer to INSTALLING FAN COWL
- Refer to INSTALLING CHARGE AIR LINE
- Refer to INSTALLING CLEAN AIR PIPE
- Refer to INSTALLING INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING
- Install cover for the DME control unit
- Refer to INSTALLING ACOUSTIC COVER
- Refer to INSTALLING EXHAUST SYSTEM
- Refer to INSTALLING REINFORCEMENT PLATE
- Refer to EVACUATING/CHARGING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (R134A) or EVACUATING/CHARGING AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM (R1234YF) .
- Disconnecting all battery ground leads
- Connect the diagnostic system for possible integration level encoding and programming
- Refer to BLEEDING THE LOW-TEMPERATURE COOLING SYSTEM
- Refer to BLEEDING THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE COOLANT SYSTEM
- Take hood out of the service position
- Install underbody protection at rear
- Install the front underbody protection
- Check engine oil level and top up oil as necessary
