REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Insulate ground line of battery.
Unwanted contact of the disconnected ground line with the ground point of the battery can occur otherwise.

Do not pressure-test cooling system until engine has reached its operating temperature. Leaks can occur on the cylinder head gasket otherwise.

6 Remove cylinder head cover trim    
7 Remove engine air intake duct upstream of air filter housing    
8 Remove air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150CD
9 Detach differential pressure sensor (DPF) (B28/8)   AR07.04-P-0012CD
IMPORTANT To do this disconnect the electrical connection (1), loosen the clamp and remove the screw/bolt (2). The DPF differential pressure sensor (B28/8) remains on the catalytic converter diesel particulate filter unit.
10 Disconnect electrical connections (3, 4), unhook engine wiring harness from bracket (5) and lay to one side IMPORTANT Remove plastic holder for electrical connection (4) from the lifting eye.  
11 Slacken screw/bolts (6) and remove the rear air filter housing holder TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, air filter bracket to cylinder head *BA09.10-P-1001-01K 
12 Disconnect wiring harness (8) on front prefuse box and lay on the engine IMPORTANT To do this remove cover (7), loosen nut (9) and unclip wiring harness (8) up to engine.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, positive battery cable to prefuse box *BA54.15-P-1002-01A 
13 Remove cover on positive terminal for on-board electrical system battery (G1) Code B03 (ECO start/stop function)  
14 Detach retainer (32) and electrical connection (31) Code B03 (ECO start/stop function)  
15 Unscrew nuts (29) and remove electrical line (28) Code B03 (ECO start/stop function)  
16 Disconnect positive line (30) on positive terminal of the on-board electrical system battery (G1) and lay on the engine Code B03 (ECO start/stop function)  
17 Remove poly-V belt   AR13.20-P-0001OMA
18 Detach coolant hoses (10, 11, 12, 13) on engine   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
IMPORTANT Henn coupling
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check condition of coolant hoses (10, 11, 12, 13) and hose clamps; replace if necessary.
19 Remove screw/bolt on the clamp (14) and lead coolant hose (13) tom the side    
20 Disconnect hose coupling (33) on engine and lead coolant hose to one side ENGINE 651 in MODEL 218
IMPORTANT Henn coupling
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check hose coupling (33) and coolant hose for damage; replace if necessary.

21 Detach coolant hose (15) on bulkhead   AR09.41-P-1311-01AL

To do this disconnect hose coupling (16).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check coolant hose (15) and hose coupling (16) for damage and seating; replace catch springs for hose coupling (16), coolant hose (15) or hose coupling (16) if necessary.
22 Unlock and detach vacuum line (17) on engine vacuum pipe    
23 Disconnect electrical connection on power steering pump Vehicles with a power steering pump  
24 Extract oil out of the fluid reservoir from the power steering pump Vehicles with a power steering pump

25 Detach high pressure expansion hose from power steering pump Vehicles with a power steering pump
IMPORTANT Collect escaping oil with rags and seal connections immediately.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace O-rings.

INSTALLATION NOTES
Check sealing rings for damage, replace sealing rings if necessary and ensure correct assembly of the catch springs.
Leaks can occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Small quantities of oil and oil marks in the charge air hoses are normal, and are due to crankcase ventilation.
32 Remove steering oil line to oil pan Vehicles with a power steering pump  
33 Disconnect lines to connecting point from AT oil cooler or transmission oil heat exchanger (34) and lead lines to the side ENGINE 651 in MODEL 207, 212 (except 212.082/097/098/282/297/298), 218 with TRANSMISSION 725.011  
34 Unscrew transmission oil heat exchanger (34) on bracket (35) and place to one side with lines connected ENGINE 651 in MODEL 218  
35 Remove exhaust pipe holder (21) NOTES
Bind up connecting pipe for the exhaust system.
This should avoid damage occurring on the flexible exhaust piece (18).
IMPORTANT To do this unscrew nuts (19) and remove bolts (20).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt of exhaust bracket to transmission *BA49.10-P-1023-01AE

38 Remove shield and disconnect electrical connection (26) ENGINE 651 in MODEL 207 with TRANSMISSION 722.646

39 Disconnect connector on gear oil auxiliary pump Code B03 (ECO start/stop function)

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

41 Disconnect fuel lines (24) IMPORTANT Open tank cap in order to relieve the overpressure in the tank.
