Remove/install transmission with torque converter - AR27.10-P-0500EWM

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Put transmission (1) in position "N" and release parking brake    
2 Open engine hood and move to vertical position   AR88.40-P-1000EW
3 Disconnect battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003EW
4 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100EWS
5 Remove bottom section of soundproofing   AR94.30-P-5300EW
6 Remove heat shield (20) To do so, remove bolts (21).    
7 Remove heat shield (4) and disconnect electrical connection at transmission control   AR27.40-P-0700-01EW 
IMPORTANT To do this, remove bolt (22).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, heat shield to oil pan *BA27.10-P-1009-04H 
8 Detach ground line (5) at transmission (1) IMPORTANT To do this, remove bolt (6).  
9 remove bracket (7) IMPORTANT To do this, remove screw/bolts (8).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, diesel particulate filter bracket to oil pan *BA49.10-P-1008-01AE 
10 Release clamp (9) and place to one side    
11 Detach torque converter (10) from clutch plate (13) and pry off evenly with a long wedge from the clutch plate (13) NOTES Do not use an impact wrench or compressed air tool.
Otherwise the threaded unions (14) of the clutch plate (13) can be damaged.
IMPORTANT To do so, remove cover (11) and unscrew screws/bolts (12).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace bolts (12).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, torque converter to drive plate *BA27.20-P-1001-01D

12 Remove oil lines (2) from transmission (1) and remove oil pan (3) and place to one side   AR27.55-P-0600EWM
NOTES Before starting work, the area around the oil lines (2) must be thoroughly cleaned at the separating points on the transmission (1).
Even the smallest dirt particles in the hydraulic components can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the transmission (1).
NOTES Do not kink or bend the oil lines (2). Otherwise, the hydraulic system could fail or the transmission (1) could get damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new seals.
IMPORTANT Collect escaping gear oil and seal the line connection fittings.

13 Support transmission (1) and secure it against falling down    
14 Remove rear engine cross member (15) and rear engine mount (16)   AR22.10-P-1180CW
NOTES Under no circumstances should impact wrenches/drivers or pneumatic tools be used to remove or screw in screws/bolts. Otherwise, the threads will be damaged.
15 Mark the location of the flex disk (18) to the transmission (1) and to the propeller shaft (17) NOTES Restore the ex factory installation position. Otherwise, drive train vibrations will occur.  
16 Remove flex disk (18)   AR41.10-P-0050EW
17 Remove screws/bolts (19) and remove transmission (1) downwards IMPORTANT Secure torque converter (10) to prevent it from falling out.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Align the holes of the torque converter (10) with the threaded unions (14) in the clutch plate (13).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, transmission to engine *BA27.10-P-1001-04H 
18 Remove torque converter (10)   AR27.20-P-0500-01EWM 
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply light coating of multi-purpose paste to torque converter (10) on drive flange.

INSPECT Check     
20 Check threaded unions (14) in clutch plate (13) For damaged or loose threaded unions (14):

Replace drive plate (13)

21 Check the rear engine mount (16) If wear or damage present

Replace rear engine mount (16)
 
22 Install in the reverse order    
23 Check and correct transmission oil level TRANSMISSION 725.0 in MODEL 212 with ENGINE 642
with CODE 805 (Model year 2015)

24 Read out fault memory using the diagnostic system and delete if necessary    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS AD00.00-P-2000-04A
25 Perform transmission adaptation using diagnostic system After replacing or repairing transmission (1)  
26 Reset data on service life of torque converter lockup clutch using diagnostic system After replacing torque converter (10)  
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
27 Test run engine and check transmission (1) for leaktightness and proper operation
