DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

3 Remove bayonet coupling (1), mount adapter (2) and connect oil dispenser Oil dispenser for transmission  
SPECIAL TOOL Adapter Fig 3
4 Pump 8 liters of transmission oil into transmission NOTES Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids. Otherwise damage to the transmission may occur.
IMPORTANT On transmissions that have been repaired, the quantity of transmission oil drained +0.5 liters should be poured in.

5 Start engine    
6 Connect diagnostic system and check oil level

IMPORTANT In the diagnostic system, call up the menu item "Adjust oil level".
IMPORTANT Throughout the entire test, the parking brake must not be released and no other disturbance variables may be generated, that are not required for the work procedure. All these factors would result in the diagnostic system measurement being canceled and then require a restart.

7.1 Bring transmission oil temperature to 90 °C/194 °F Vehicles with additional oil cooler and when additional oil cooler was removed/replaced beforehand
IMPORTANT Thermostat opens at 90 °C/194 °F.
IMPORTANT Engine rpm 2500 rpm, selector lever in position "P".
 
7.2 Bring transmission oil temperature to 35°C/95°F Vehicles without additional oil cooler or vehicles with additional oil cooler where additional oil cooler was not removed/replaced beforehand  
8.1 Switch off engine and allow transmission oil to cool down Vehicles with additional oil cooler and when additional oil cooler was removed/replaced beforehand  
8.2 Turn off engine Vehicles without additional oil cooler or vehicles with additional oil cooler where additional oil cooler was not removed/replaced beforehand  
9 Determine transmission oil temperature using diagnostic system

10 Start engine and allow to run in selector lever position "P"    
11 Pump transmission oil using oil dispenser into transmission NOTES Observe Specifications for Operating Fluids. Otherwise damage to the transmission may occur.

12 In diagnostic system, select menu item "Adjust oil level" and follow instructions from diagnostic system    
13 Determine transmission oil temperature using diagnostic system

IMPORTANT As the overflow tube (3) within the oil pan is designed for operation at the specified transmission oil temperature, this temperature should never exceed the level indicated.

14 Detach oil dispenser together with adapter (2) Oil dispenser for transmission  
SPECIAL TOOL Adapter Fig 3
15 Allow constant flow of oil (arrow A) to be drained off at the specified transmission oil temperature, until only a thin flow of oil escapes (see correct oil filling capacity (arrow B)) IMPORTANT The diagnostic system performs the oil adjusting function "Adjust oil level". Follow the instructions issued by the diagnostic system.
IMPORTANT If the oil flow is not constant after the drain screw is opened, the oil level has to be corrected and then adjusted again.
 
16 Screw in bayonet connection (1)    
17 Check transmission for leaks and function    
18.1 Install lower section of rear soundproofing TRANSMISSION 725.0 in MODEL 172
