51 45 030 Removing and installing instrument panel trim: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2019 MINI Cooper, 2018 MINI Cooper, 2017 MINI Cooper, 2016 MINI Cooper, and 2015 MINI Cooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When working on trim panel components, make sure that visible surfaces are not scratched or damaged (e.g. by sharp-edged tools).

Removal: 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

For equipment specification with Head-Up Display, make sure that Head-Up Display is retracted.

The following parts must be removed as preliminary work:

1 AIRBAG  and STEERING WHEEL
2 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
3 TRIM PANEL FOR A-PILLAR, LEFT/RIGHT 
4 COVER FOR HEAD UP DISPLAY
5 MID-RANGE SPEAKERS
6 CENTRAL INSTRUMENT and HEADUNIT
7 FRESH AIR GRILLE, MIDDLE, LEFT/RIGHT 
8 CONTROL PANEL FOR AIR CONDITIONING
9 CENTER CONSOLE CONTROL PANEL
10 GLOVE BOX WITH HOUSING 
11 TRIM PANEL, CENTER CONSOLE, LEFT/RIGHT 
12 ASSEMBLY CARRIER 
13 CENTER CONSOLE, COMPLETE 
14 INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM, BOTTOM 
15 STEERING COLUMN SHROUD 
16 STEERING COLUMN SWITCH CLUSTER

Release screw (1).

NOTE: Carry out work on the right side in the same way as for the left side illustrated here.

Release screws (1).

Release screws (1) on passenger's side.

Disconnect plug connection (1) from front passenger airbag (2).

US version only (no diagram): 

Disconnect 3 plug connections (1) from front passenger airbag (2).

Observe the notes on AIRBAG PLUG CONNECTIONS .

Release screws (1) on driver's side.

Remove the instrument panel (1) with the aid of the helper and pull out all electrical lines (2).

Installation: 

NOTE: Graphic is only an example.

Make sure that guides (1) on instrument panel (2) are correctly seated in respective mountings of bulkhead.

Make sure gaskets are correctly seated on air ducts.

Insert and install foam moldings of the instrument panel (2) correctly at the center.

Insert instrument panel (1) with the help of a helper and connect all electrical lines (2).

NOTE: Screw instrument panel (1) tightly from the middle towards outside.

Make sure all electrical lines (2) are correctly routed.

Tighten screws (1) on driver's side.

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .

Connect plug connection (1) of front passenger airbag (2) and lock.

US version only (no diagram): 

Connect 3 plug connections (1) of front passenger airbag (2) and lock.

Observe notes regarding AIRBAG PLUG CONNECTIONS .

Tighten screws (1) on passenger's side.

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 51 45 1AZ .
