General
The ATA monitors the status of all alarm inputs after the locking of the vehicle via the central locking system (CL).
If an opening is detected, the ATA outputs a visual and audible alarm signal.
The anti-theft alarm system monitors:
- Engine hood
- All doors
- Trunk lid or liftgate
- Alarm siren (vehicles with interior protection)
- Position change of vehicle (tow-away protection) (vehicles with interior protection)
- Movements in vehicle interior (interior protection) (vehicles with interior protection)
- Rear window (vehicles with glass breakage sensor and interior protection)
- Rear left and right side windows (station wagons and SUVs with glass breakage sensors and interior protection)
The status (open or closed) of the doors, hood and trunk lid or tailgate is detected by microswitches and queried on a cyclical basis every 200 ms.
Vehicles with interior protection
The interior protection and/or tow-away protection can be deactivated before the vehicle is locked. The interior protection and/or tow-away protection is only deactivated for the subsequent activation of the antitheft alarm system.
Activating ATA
The anti-theft alarm system is activated when the vehicle is locked. All alarm inputs are armed. The ATA function indicator shows this status and flashes.
If the driver's door is still open when the vehicle is locked, its remains unlocked. The alarm input is armed once the driver's door is closed. An alarm is triggered if the driver's door is opened.
The following components are additionally activated on vehicles with interior protection:
- Interior motion sensor
The interior protection is activated 10 s after the locking of the vehicle and the closing of the last door, trunk lid or tailgate. After an additional 10 s, the interior protection is fully active, as the system must first calibrate the vehicle interior.
- Towing sensor
The tow-away protection is activated 60 s after the locking of the vehicle and the closing of the last door, trunk lid or tailgate.
The system determines a reference position via an inclination sensor with which the relative inclination is then compared during the active time. It takes approx. 10 to 15s to determine this reference position.
- Alarm siren
The alarm siren is armed together with the ATA and is addressed on a cyclical basis approx. every 600 ms.
Automatic activation of ATA (code 552 (Self-arming))
If the driver's door, trunk lid, or tailgate is opened and closed again after the ignition is switched off, the ATA arms itself automatically after 100 s.
Deactivating ATA:
The ATA is deactivated when the vehicle is unlocked via the transmitter key or where the start/stop button is actuated.
Trigger ATA alarm
An ATA alarm is triggered by:
- Opening of a door, hood or trunk lid or tailgate
- Movement in vehicle interior (vehicles with interior protection)
- Change in vehicle inclination (tow-away protection) (vehicles with interior protection)
- Glass breakage (station wagons and SUVs with glass breakage sensors and interior protection)
- Loss of communication with alarm siren (vehicles with interior protection)
- Panic alarm (radio remote control with panic alarm)
Opening of a door, hood or trunk lid or tailgate
An alarm is triggered if one of the microswitches that monitors the status of the doors, hood or trunk lid or tailgate exits its idle state. The corresponding microswitch must first return to its idle state before an alarm can be triggered again. After approx. 10 s, the same microswitch can trigger an alarm again if no audible alarm signal is pending.
If a locked vehicle is unlocked with the emergency key and the door is opened, the ATA triggers an alarm.
Movement in vehicle interior (vehicles with interior protection)
If a movement is detected in the vehicle interior and is classified as alarm relevant, the ATA triggers an alarm.
The sensitivity of the interior protection is reduced in the case of the following situations:
- Side window or sliding sunroof (vehicles with panoramic sliding sunroof or sliding sunroof) opened o denormalized
- Ventilation active (e.g. evaporator drying)
The interior protection is temporarily deactivated if automated functions can lead to the triggering of an ATA alarm.
Examples of such functions are:
- Convenience feature
- Rain closing
- Opening and closing the trunk lid or tailgate using the transmitter key (vehicles with remote trunk closing or EASY-PACK liftgate)
Change in vehicle inclination (tow-away protection) (vehicles with interior protection)
If the inclination quickly changes with regard to the reference position, the ATA triggers an alarm. An alarm is already output before a wheel loses contact with the ground where a vehicle is lifted.
To prevent inadvertent activations in the case of very slow changes in the inclination (e.g. tire malfunction), the reference position is in this connection compared with the current inclination. In the case of an inclination sensor defect, all other ATA components remain fully operational.
Glass breakage (vehicles with glass breakage sensor(s) and interior protection)
If an open circuit is detected in the induction loop in the associated rear side window (station wagons and SUVs) or in the rear window, the ATA triggers an alarm.
The glass breakage sensors are connected in series. The interruption of the induction loop of an additional glass breakage sensor does not trigger an alarm.
Loss of communication with alarm siren (vehicles with interior protection)
If the alarm siren does not respond to the cyclical addressing within 1 s (no communication), the ATA triggers an alarm.
If the alarm siren detects a loss in the supply voltage, an audible alarm signal is also automatically output.
Panic alarm (radio remote control with panic alarm)
An alarm is triggered by pressing the panic alarm button on the transmitter key for approx. 2 s. The alarm is canceled again by briefly pressing the panic alarm again on the transmitter key.
Output ATA alarm
Visual alarm
When an ATA alarm is triggered, the hazard warning system is activated and the interior lighting is switched on. In vehicles with ambient lighting, the ambient lighting flashes blue and red. The visual alarm is active for 5 min.
Acoustic alarm
The acoustic alarm signal is output in vehicles with interior protection via the alarm siren. In vehicles without interior protection, the acoustic alarm signal is output via the horn. The acoustic alarm signal is active for 30 s.
The audible alarm signal is increased to 5 min under the following conditions:
- Interruption of supply lines (only in Belgium, Netherlands and Great Britain)
- If a door, the engine hood or the liftgate is broken open and remains open (in Great Britain only)
The alarm output is canceled via the following actions:
- Unlocking of vehicle via CL via smartphone or digital key sticker (vehicles with vehicle access and drive authorization via mobile phone).
- Actuation of start/stop button (transmitter key in vehicle interior)
- Holding of door handle (transmitter key outside the vehicle) (vehicles with KEYLESS-GO)
