Remove Bowden cable (2) from C-pillar lock, unhook retracting spring (3) and move slide valve upward (4). |

Unlock Vario roof with roof switch until trunk lid is open |
Do not open Vario roof |

Open emergency operation valve (N) on hydraulic unit to stop with 6 mm Allen wrench |
Open emergency operation valve only with roof put down or closed and ignition switched off to avoid damaging the seal on the emergency operation valve (N) which would prevent pressure from building up in the system. |

Remove clip-type fastener (6), bolts (7) |
|
|
| 10 |
Remove circlip (8), bolt (9) |
|
|
| 11 |
Completely slide piston rod into main cylinder (10) by hand, remove main cylinder (10) from main bearing (11) toward front, lay down onto B-pillar and fasten to fender with adhesive tape. |
|
|
|
When removing right roof kinematics, remove electrical lines and hydraulic lines from rear of Vario roof and limit switch (S69/11) on main bearing (11) together with retaining clamps. |
|

Completely unlock lock on front of Vario roof with 6 mm Allen wrench. |
|
|
| 13 |
Insert 80 x 80 x 290 mm wooden block (shopmade) into trunk (arrow) |
Lay rag down on wooden block |
|
| 14 |
Open Vario roof by hand until rear Vario roof makes contact to wooden block. |
|
|
| 15 |
Mark position of roof kinematics (1) in relation to front and rear of Vario roof |
|
|
| 16 |
Mark position of main bearing (11) on B-pillar |
|
|
| 17 |
Install assembly support (12) in Vario roof |

Install Bowden cable (23) in reinforcement frame on front of Vario roof |

| 19 |
Unscrew bolts (13) from front and rear of Vario roof |
Remove any spacers (14) present if necessary |

Unscrew bolts (15) from inner main bearing (11) |
|
|
| 21 |
Slightly lift front of Vario roof and pivot roof kinematics (1) toward front |
|
|
| 22 |
Unscrew bolt (15) from main bearing (11) and remove roof kinematics (1) |
|
|

Install |
|
|
| 23 |
Align spacers on B-pillar, install roof kinematics (1) and align main bearing (11) according to marking |
|
|
| 24 |
Screw bolt (15) into outer main bearing (11) and tightly lightly |
|
|
| 25 |
Pivot roof kinematics (1) upward, screw in all bolts (13) and slide in spacers (14) |
Do not pinch ground cable, electrical lines and hydraulic lines. |

Align roof kinematics (1) according to markings and tighten one bolt (13) each at front and rear of Vario roof |
Tighten second bolt (13) at rear of Vario roof at top |
|

Screw bolt (15) into main bearing (11) from inside and tighten |

Remove assembly support (12), screw in bolt (16) and reinstall support (19) |

Completely unlock lock at front of Vario roof with 6 mm Allen wrench and lay Vario roof onto crossmember above windshield by hand |

Install main cylinder (10) in main bearing (11) |
|
|
| 31 |
Close emergency operation valve (N) on hydraulic unit and remove wooden block |

Close Vario roof with roof switch |
Release roof switch before closing rear side window |

Install Bowden cable (2) and hook in retracting spring (3) |
When hooking in retracting spring (3) ensure that the grommet for the control cable (2) is located in the bracket (5). |

Loosen bolts (13) on front and rear of Vario roof and lightly tap onto Vario roof by hand a number of times in area of roof separation. |
This eliminates and tension in roof motion system (1) |
|

Check gap between front and rear of Vario roof with feeler gage, correct rear of Vario roof is necessary |
Unlock front lock to correct |
