Panel, Instrument: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - 2.0L or DRAINING - 3.2L .
  3. Evacuate the air conditioning system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Disconnect the heater core hoses (2) and (3) from the heater core. Refer to CORE, HEATER, REMOVAL .
  5. Install plugs in or tape over the opened heater core tubes to prevent coolant spillage during housing removal.
  6. Remove fastener (4) and disconnect the air conditioning refrigerant lines (1) and (5) from the evaporator.
  7. Install plugs in or tape over the opened refrigerant lines.
  8. Remove the front doors. Refer to DOOR, REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL .
  10. Remove the shifter assembly. Refer to SHIFTER, FLOOR CONSOLE, REMOVAL .
  11. Remove the center bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, REMOVAL .

  12. Remove the fasteners (2) and remove the radio support bracket (1).
  13. Remove the A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .

  14. Using a trim stick or equivalent, disengage the retaining clips securing the front door sill scuff panel (1) to the door sill and lower B-pillar.
  15. Remove the front door sill scuff panel (1).

  16. Lift up on the front carpet to gain access to floor ducts. Remove the bracket (2) and remove the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) floor ducts (1).

  17. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove the speaker covers (1).

  18. Remove the defroster grille (1). Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, REMOVAL .

  19. Release the harness and connector (2) from the side of the instrument panel (1).
  20. Disconnect the A-pillar wire harness connector.
  21. Remove the lower silencer panels. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, LOWER, REMOVAL .
  22. Disconnect the passenger airbag wire harness connector.

  23. Remove steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL .
  24. If equipped, remove the knee blocker airbag. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, REMOVAL .
  25. Remove the steering column gap hider fasteners (3).
  26. Remove the steering column (1). Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL .
  27. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connectors from the Body Control Module (BCM).

  28. Remove the lower instrument panel to floor pan bracket fasteners (1).
  29. Remove the fasteners (3) and remove the ground wires from the studs on the floor.
  30. Repeat on the opposite side.
  31. With the use of pliers or equivalent, disconnect the air conditioning drain tube clamp (4).
  32. Remove the drain tube from the floor valve.
  33. Remove the glove box. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  34. From under the passenger side of the instrument panel, disconnect the body to dash wire harness connectors (1).
  35. Disconnect the coaxial connectors (2), if equipped.

  36. Place tape along the top of the instrument panel (1) and on the outside of the windshield (3) as indicated and mark with felt tip pen or equivalent (2) to aid during the installation.

  37. Place tape along the door sill flanges (1) as indicated and mark with felt tip pen or equivalent to aid during the installation.

  38. Using a pocket ruler (4) or equivalent, measure and record the distance (3) from the door sill flanges (1) to the instrument panel support beam (2) on both sides of the instrument panel to aid installation.

  39. Remove the wiper linkage. Refer to LINKAGE, WIPER ARM, REMOVAL .
  40. Remove the instrument panel carrier to the lower plenum fasteners (1).

    NOTE:

    Use a deep well socket with a full cut to remove the instrument panel carrier side fasteners (1). The carrier fasteners design will not allow a partial cut socket to access.

    NOTE:

    Removal of the instrument panel will require the use of three people, one on each end and one in the middle.

  41. Place assistant at the center of the instrument panel to help support and assist with removal.
  42. With the use of a small flat bladed tool or equivalent, remove the fastener covers located on the hinge pillar of both sides of the vehicle.
  43. Remove the instrument panel carrier fasteners (2), from each side.
  44. Remove the IP from vehicle.
