Test Drive

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Volvo 850. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Vehicle may be difficult to control if it has a brake problem. Ensure test drive is performed under safe and controlled conditions. Test drive should be performed after any brake repair.
  1. Disconnect scan tool. Turn ignition off. Start engine and note BRAKE warning light. If BRAKE light is on, check brake fluid level and system for leaks. Repair as necessary.
  2. Test drive vehicle at a speed of at least 30 MPH. If ABS warning light comes on or does not go out, stop vehicle and note any DTCs. Perform appropriate DTC diagnosis. If no DTCs are posted and ABS warning light comes on, see ABS WARNING LIGHT  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Perform several brake tests from a reasonable speed to a full stop on a level dry road. At least one stop should be with ABS activated at a speed over 30 MPH.
