DTC 443: Pump Motor - Electrical Or Mechanical Fault

  1. If additional DTCs are present, go to next step. If DTC 443 is present, determine whether fault is permanent or intermittent. If fault is permanent, go to step 3). If fault is intermittent, go to step 8).
  2. If DTCs 431, 432, or 433 are present, turn ignition off, then on. Using scan tool, activate pump motor. If pump operates okay, go to step 8). If pump does not operate okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS control module connector. Connect breakout box. Check voltage between breakout box pins No. 8 and 25. If about battery voltage is present, go to step 5). If about battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
  4. Check fuse No. 11/9. If fuse is bad, check Red wire for a short to ground between fuse No. 11/9 and ABS control module terminal No. 25. Replace fuse. If fuse is okay, check voltage supply to fuse. If voltage is present at fuse, check for open circuit in Red wire between fuse No. 11/9 and ABS control module terminal No. 25. Repair as necessary. If voltage is not present at fuse, check for open circuit in wire between fuse No. 11/9 and voltage.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS pump motor. Connect ohmmeter between pump motor connector terminal M+ (Black wire) and ground. If ohmmeter reads infinite resistance, go to next step. If ohmmeter does not read infinite resistance, check for short to ground in wiring between pump motor and pump motor connector. If wiring is okay, replace hydraulic modulator. See HYDRAULIC MODULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Connect jumper wire between pump motor connector terminal M- (Black wire) and ground. Connect another jumper wire between pump motor connector terminal M+ (Black wire) and voltage. If pump motor starts, do not run for more than 10 seconds. Remove jumper wires, then go to next step. If pump motor does not operate, check wiring for an open circuit between pump motor and pump motor connector. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace hydraulic modulator.
  7. Ensure ignition is off. Reconnect pump motor connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, activate pump motor. If pump motor operates, fault was caused by poor terminal contact. If pump motor does not operate, replace ABS control module.
  8. If fault is intermittent, check pump motor connector terminals for contact resistance. Check wiring between pump motor and pump motor connector for an intermittent open or short circuit to ground. Check Red wire between battery and ABS control module terminal No. 25 for an intermittent open circuit. Repair as necessary.
