4 SPD. Automatic Transmission 01M On Board Diagnostic (A3 Platform): Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 25 other vehicles, including the 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio, 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio, 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, and 1999 Volkswagen Golf. The following list pertains to Fig 1.

  1. Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- 
  2. Engine Control Module (ECM) 

    See appropriate Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) article in Engine Performance.

    See appropriate Diesel Fuel Injection article in Engine Performance.

    NOTE: If engine or transmission control modules are replaced, initiate basic setting: see BASIC SETTING, INITIATING (FUNCTION 04) .
  3. Data Link Connector (DLC) 
  4. Valve body 
  5. Conductor strip with integrated Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor -G93- 
  6. Multi-function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125- 
  7. Transmission Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G38- 
  8. Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G68- 
    • Location and removing and installing, see Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G68-, location 
    • Connector -T2- to wiring harness is black
    • -G68- is checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD)
      NOTE: Do not interchange connector -T2- for vehicle speed sensors -G38- and -G68-
  9. Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G69- 
    • Location, see Throttle Position (TP) Sensor -G69-, removing and installing 
    • Removing and installing

      See appropriate Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) article in Engine Performance.

      See appropriate Diesel Fuel Injection article in Engine Performance.

    • Various types of TP sensor according to engine version.
    • On vehicles with 6-Cyl. engine 01.93 and above, or diesel engines, TP sensor signal is directed via ECM to TCM. The signal can only be checked via read measuring value block: See READ MEASURING VALUE BLOCK (FUNCTION 08) .
    • If malfunction indicated in TP sensor, then also perform OBD on ECM. See appropriate fuel injection On Board Diagnostic (OBD) or Diesel Fuel Injection articles.
    • After repair, initiate basic setting, see BASIC SETTING, INITIATING (FUNCTION 04) 
    • TP sensor signal is checked by On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
  10. Shift Lock Solenoid -N110- 
  11. Cruise Control Switch -E45- 
  12. Kick Down Switch -F8- 
  13. Brake Light Switch -F- 
  14. Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Relay -J226-
